John Breeding's Necessity of Madness is a work of genius. He has a unique understanding of the damage that psychiatry causes society. Foucault would have been proud. Breeding's argument is so well researched, thought out and articulate that it would be difficult for anyone not to be convinced by him. Like any great work of literature what Breeding says is controversial. The publication of his book in Europe and particularly within the UK will inspire the mental health survivor movement to speak up and speak out. His brilliant philosophy gives more venom to the social model of madness and distress in the UK. As we struggle to develop our own philosophy Breeding's book can be used as a tool to give the social model the momentum it so desperately needs. Widespread circulation and consumption of this book within the UK survivor movement would make an underdeveloped philosophy developed. Breeding is so lucid and enlightening that he gives us all hope. There is no need for apathy anymore. It's payback time.

A contemporary philosophical masterwork from “one of the world’s best-known public intellectuals ” (New York Review of Books) Philosophical materialism in all its forms – from scientific naturalism to Deleuzian New Materialism – has failed to meet the key theoretical and political challenges of the modern world. This is the burden of philosopher Slavoj Žižek’s argument in this pathbreaking and eclectic new work. Recent history has seen developments such as quantum physics and Freudian psychoanalysis, not to speak of the failure of twentieth-century communism, shake our understanding of existence. In the process, the dominant tradition in Western philosophy lost its moorings. To bring materialism up to date, Žižek – himself a committed materialist and communist – proposes a radical revision of our intellectual heritage. He argues that dialectical materialism is the only true philosophical inheritor of what Hegel designated the “speculative” approach in thought. Absolute Recoil is a startling reformulation of the basis and possibilities of contemporary philosophy. While focusing on how to overcome the transcendental approach without regressing to naïve, pre-Kantian realism, Žižek offers a series of excursions into today’s political, artistic, and ideological landscape, from Arnold Schoenberg’s music to the films of Ernst Lubitsch.

Space ships, action, adventure¾all tied together with a strong dollop of romance and clan intrigue¾make this a compelling series for a wide range of readers, from romance to military SF lovers. The kompani see none as an enemy, and yet few as friend. The kompani exist in many places, living quietly in the shadows, thriving off the bounty that others have no wit to secure, nor skill to defend. Their private history is unwritten; their recall rooted in dance and dream. The Clan Korval is in many ways the opposite of the kompani. The interstellar trading clan is wealthy in enemies, fortunate in friends. Korval protects itself with vigor, and teaches even its youngest children the art of war. And when representatives of Clan Korval arrive on the planet Surebleak where the kompani has lived, secret and aloof, the lives of three people intersect¾ Kezzi, apprentice to the kompani's grandmother; Syl Vor, Clan Korval's youngest warrior; and Rys, a man without a world, or a past. Necessity's Child is a standalone adventure in the popular and exciting Liaden Universe®. At the publisher's request, this title is sold without DRM (Digital Rights Management).

Meaning Madness And Political Subjectivity written by Sadeq Rahimi and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-02-20 with Psychology categories.

This book explores the relationship between subjective experience and the cultural, political and historical paradigms in which the individual is embedded. Providing a deep analysis of three compelling case studies of schizophrenia in Turkey, the book considers the ways in which private experience is shaped by collective structures, offering insights into issues surrounding religion, national and ethnic identity and tensions, modernity and tradition, madness, gender and individuality. Chapters draw from cultural psychiatry, medical anthropology, and political theory to produce a model for understanding the inseparability of private experience and collective processes. The book offers those studying political theory a way for conceptualizing the subjective within the political; it offers mental health clinicians and researchers a model for including political and historical realities in their psychological assessments and treatments; and it provides anthropologists with a model for theorizing culture in which psychological experience and political facts become understandable and explainable in terms of, rather than despite each other. Meaning, Madness, and Political Subjectivity provides an original interpretative methodology for analysing culture and psychosis, offering compelling evidence that not only "normal" human experiences, but also extremely "abnormal" experiences such as psychosis are anchored in and shaped by local cultural and political realities.
