Go back to an earlier time in the tiny town of Nefyn, Wales. Visit with a way-of-life and characters who made growing up there so interesting. Focused primarily on fishing experiences on Nefyn Beach, the reminiscences of a former resident brings this unique little town to life. Visit the places and the recollections the author experienced. A pleasant group of tales that take you back to the good old days - a time to be remembered with fondness and nostalgia. Follow the author as he leaves Nefyn to pursue a career in America. There he meets other Welsh emigrants and visits places where some of his ancestors established roots in the 1800's and early 1900's. Not surprisingly, his own roots are firmly entrenched in a very special place - old Nefyn.

Golf On The Edge written by Stephen Cartmell and has been published by Random House this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-05-31 with Sports & Recreation categories.

Because of its island status, the British shoreline enjoys more traditional coastal golf courses than anywhere in world. When Stephen Cartmell set himself the challenge of finding and testing eighteen of the most outstanding links courses in Britain, he decided that they had to meet a number of important criteria - the most significant of which was that the sea had to be visible from the course and, preferably, should present a physical hazard to any wayward shots. Stephen Cartmell provides hilarious descriptions of these sea-flanked courses, not to mention the characters he meets on his journey around the British coastline in this perfect guide for those tempted to play Golf on the Edge.

From Ship S Cook To Baronet written by David Jenkins and has been published by University of Wales Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-09-15 with History categories.

Sir William Reardon Smith (1856-1935) was one of the foremost figures in south Wales in the early twentieth century. His was a classic story of ‘rags to riches’ - starting life as a deck-hand and ship’s cook sailing from his native Appledore in 1870, he was a master mariner at the age of twenty-two and subsequently commanded many of the fine sailing ships owned by Hugh Hogarth & Sons of Glasgow. A long-cherished ambition to become a shipowner was eventually realised in 1906 when he acquired his first steamship, City of Cardiff. The venture prospered and nine vessels were owned on the eve of the First World War. He subsequently showed great entrepreneurial initiative during the depression, acquiring motor vessels and establishing new trade routes. He is also remembered as a great philanthropist, particularly through his association with the National Museum of Wales – during his term as treasurer (1925-28) and president (1928-32), he restored the museum’s faltering finances and enabled the construction of the it’s east wing which is now so integral a part of Cardiff’s dignified civic centre. His establishment of the Reardon Smith Nautical School in Cardiff in 1921 was another notable achievement; this school provided an opportunity for aspiring deck officers to learn the essential skills appropriate to their chosen careers. He also funded hospital developments in Cardiff and Bideford, and endowed the chair of geography at Exeter University. At the time of his death in December 1935, fulsome tributes were paid to him both by his fellow shipowners and by the principals of those organisations which had benefitted from his generosity; many of those who live in south Wales and the West country today still enjoy that legacy

Of the many brass bands that have flourished in Britain and Ireland over the last 200 years very few have documented records covering their history. This directory is an attempt to collect together information about such bands and make it available to all. Over 19,600 bands are recorded here, with some 10,600 additional cross references for alternative or previous names. This volume supersedes the earlier “British Brass Bands – a Historical Directory” (2016) and includes some 1,400 bands from the island of Ireland. A separate work is in preparation covering brass bands beyond the British Isles. A separate appendix lists the brass bands in each county
