Internet and Information and Communication Technologies represent the largest network of human online communication ever. Language is the material that enables communication to flow in this ever-growing digital world of emails, webs, blogs and SMS messages. And language, as always, transforms itself to meet the rapid demands of this virtual universe. As a result, a myriad of changes have occurred and are continuously occurring in the language of Internet users. The Texture of Internet explores the latest linguistic issues regarding these language transformations focusing on texting, email writing, website texture, new digital genres such as blogs, and the potential applications of Internet to specific linguistic professional settings (e.g. translation, linguistic research or language teaching). This book will become a key reference for anyone interested in unveiling the intricacies of language use in our technological environment. Santiago Posteguillo, María José Esteve, and Lluïsa Gea-Valor have compiled an excellent set of contributions from Spain, United Kingdom, and Hong Kong on the analysis of language use in Internet and Information and Communication Technologies. They all are researchers and teachers of Languages for Specific Purposes and Linguistics at Universitat Jaume I in Castelló, Spain. Their experience in Internet language analysis has produced a most valuable volume on the matter.

Computers and the Internet gave rise to the emergence of computer-mediated communication (CMC). The Influence of Computers, the Internet and Computer-Mediated Communication on Everyday English focuses on the use of English in connection with computers and the Internet and on its influences on everyday English by analysing the dispersal of new meanings of words, neologisms, features of CMC and new metaphors. The intention is to show the computer- and Internet-related impact on the English language from several perspectives and to take several ways into consideration in which the Internet and CMC are changing language use and to evaluate this influence -- at least as far as this is possible.

To encompass the key topics in this arena, this handbook features 100 topics arranged under eight headings. Volume 1 concentrates on general principles of science and technology leadership and includes sections on social-scientific perspectives on S&T leadership; key scientific concepts about leading and innovating in S&T; characteristics of S&T leaders and their environments; and strategies, tactics, and tools of S&T leadership. Volume 2 provides case studies of leadership in S&T, with sections considering leadership in informal communities of scientists and engineers; leadership in government projects and research initiatives; leadership in industry research, development, and innovation; and finally, leadership in education and university-based research. Connectionist Approaches To Natural Language Processing written by R G Reilly and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-07-22 with Psychology categories.

Originally published in 1992, when connectionist natural language processing (CNLP) was a new and burgeoning research area, this book represented a timely assessment of the state of the art in the field. It includes contributions from some of the best known researchers in CNLP and covers a wide range of topics. The book comprises four main sections dealing with connectionist approaches to semantics, syntax, the debate on representational adequacy, and connectionist models of psycholinguistic processes. The semantics and syntax sections deal with a variety of approaches to issues in these traditional linguistic domains, covering the spectrum from pure connectionist approaches to hybrid models employing a mixture of connectionist and classical AI techniques. The debate on the fundamental suitability of connectionist architectures for dealing with natural language processing is the focus of the section on representational adequacy. The chapters in this section represent a range of positions on the issue, from the view that connectionist models are intrinsically unsuitable for all but the associationistic aspects of natural language, to the other extreme which holds that the classical conception of representation can be dispensed with altogether. The final section of the book focuses on the application of connectionist models to the study of psycholinguistic processes. This section is perhaps the most varied, covering topics from speech perception and speech production, to attentional deficits in reading. An introduction is provided at the beginning of each section which highlights the main issues relating to the section topic and puts the constituent chapters into a wider context.

Logic And Linguistics written by Helmut Schnelle and has been published by Psychology Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1989 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.

The papers in this series of five volumes provide a snapshot of current trends in European Cognitive Science. Each of the volumes deals with problems in cognitive science from a different perspective, covering the interacting disciplines of cognitive psychology, logic and linguistics, human-computer interaction, neuroscience and artificial intelligence respectively. Linguistics is concerned with the structure and use of languages, and logic with the form and correctness of argumentation in ordinary and scientific language. The two fields are presented with respect to their role in cognitive science and artificial intelligence: How are they realised by psychological mechanisms or biological processes on the one hand or programmed or wired in machines on the other. The contributions in this volume give introductions to the state-of-the-art, emphasizing the analysis of complexity and flexibility in logic and language in the framework of classical approaches (Chapters 3, 4, 5, 7). At the same time some contributions present a broader perspective in which an integration of the formal structure with the structure of the processing systems might be possible (Chapters 2 & 6). In this context, the differences and the perspectives of the classical approaches on the one hand and of connectionist approaches on the other are compared.
