This book aimed at bringing an insight to the ICN network, particularly various architectures, issues and challenges in the new networking paradigm. The book starts with an introduction to the new promising concept of ICN and its origin along with the reason behind this interesting innovation. Different architectures proposed so far in support of implementing the ICN is also discussed in details. Few of the challenges of ICN implementation are enlisted as caching, naming, routing, and security. Each of these challenges with recent development is covered in individual chapters. Moreover, integration of current trends in communication and computing like software defined networking and machine learning approach are another area that this book is focusing. All these chapters highlight the recent developments reported in the area and also discusses the future trends. The book provides an overview of the recent developments in future internet technologies, bringing together the advancements that have been made in ICN. The book includes three unique chapters in the field of ICN research. The first, is the SDN framework for implementing ICN by decoupling data and control plan. The machine learning models for predicting future trends in network traffic and other management activities is another important chapter. This chapter includes the possibilities of using machine learning models for trend prediction to help network administrators and service providers to take care of unexpected sudden change traffic pattern and user behaviour. The third most vital chapter is the security issues in ICN. This chapter includes various facts that influences the security of ICN. Issues involved in naming, caching and routing are discussed separately along with few recent works in these areas. Various types of attacks in ICN are also part of the discussion. The stated book would be useful for researchers in this area and will work as a reference for future work. Moreover, the content of the book would also be suitable as a supporting material for undergraduate and graduate level courses in computer science and electrical engineering.

Research and development in wireless and mobile networks and services areas have been going on for some time, reaching the stage of products. The International Conference on Networking (ICN 2005) was the fourth conf- ence in its series aimed at stimulating technical exchange in the emerging and important ?eld of networking. On behalf of the International Advisory C- mittee, it is our great pleasure to welcome you to the proceedings of the 2005 event. Networking faces dramatic changes due to the customer-centric view, the venue of the next generation networks paradigm, the push from ubiquitous n- working,andthenewservicemodels.Despitelegacyproblems,whichresearchers and industry are still discovering and improving the state of the art, the ho- zon has revealed new challenges that some of the authors tackled through their submissions. InfactICN2005wasverywellperceivedbytheinternationalnetworkingc- munity. A total of 651 papers from more than 60 countries were submitted, from which 238 were accepted. Each paper was reviewed by several members of the Technical Program Committee. This year, the Advisory Committee revalidated various accepted papers after the reviews had been incorporated. We perceived a signi?cant improvement in the number of submissions and the quality of the submissions. TheICN2005programcoveredavarietyofresearchtopicsthatareofcurrent interest,startingwithGridnetworks,multicasting,TCPoptimizations,QoSand security, emergency services, and network resiliency. The Program Committee selected also three tutorials and invited speakers that addressed the latest - search results from the international industries and academia, and reports on ?ndings from mobile, satellite, and personal communications related to 3rd- and 4th-generation research projects and standardization.

This volume contains the set of revised selected papers presented at the 21st International Conference on Information Networking (ICOIN 2007), which was held in Estoril, Portugal, January 23–25, 2007. The conference series started under the name of Joint Workshop on Computer Communications, in 1986. At that time, it constituted a technical meeting for researchersand engineers on - ternet technologies in East Asian countries, where several technical networking issues were discussed. In 1993, the meeting was reorganized as an international conference known as ICOIN. Recent conferences were held in Sendai, Japan (2006),Jeju,Korea(2005),Pusan,Korea(2004),Jeju,Korea(2003),Jeju,Korea (2002), Beppu City, Japan (2001), Hsin-chu, Taiwan (2000), and Tokyo, Japan (1999). In 2007, for the ?rst time since its creation, ICOIN took place outside Asia, and we were very pleased to host it in Portugal. ICOIN 2007 was or- nized by INESC-ID and IST/Technical University of Lisbon (Portugal) with the technical co-sponsorship of IEEE Communications Society and IEEE Portugal Section-Computer Society Chapter, in cooperation with the Order of Engineers CollegeofInformaticsEngineering(Portugal),IPSJ(InformationProcessing- ciety of Japan), KISS (Korea Information Science Society), and Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS), Springer, Germany. The papers presented in this volume were selected in two stages: 1) revi- ing and selection for the ICOIN program and 2) on-site presentation review by session chairs or by program committee chairs.
