Doctors, including psychiatrists, prescribe antidepressants, neuroleptics ("antipsychotics"), mood stabilizers, tranquilizers and psychostimulants all over the world, and, in most cases, without providing information about the risks of taking them and problems when stopping, for example, adverse effects, tolerance formation, bodily and psychological dependence and withdrawal symptoms. Nor they tell people about ways to avoid or minimize the risks. +++ This volume presents a collaboration of users and survivors of psychiatry (ex-patients), professionals, researchers, lawyers, and academics around the world committed to helping people understand the potential harm (including drug dependence) that prescribed psychotropic drugs can cause and how to safely reduce or stop taking them. The chapters include individual accounts of people who discontinued their prescribed psychotropic drugs, information about withdrawal groups, research data (especially about antidepressants and neuroleptics) and a commitment to safe withdrawal that will offer hope to many people; those who want to help and those who want to withdraw. +++ Contributions by Volkmar Aderhold, Paulo Amarante, Peter Breggin, Tatiana Castillo-Parada, Mary Ellen Copeland, Anna Emmanouelidou, Fernando Freitas, Jim Gottstein, Peter Groot, Swapnil Gupta, Marina Langfeldt, David Richman, Olga Runciman, Jann Schlimme, Trudy Slaght, Jim van Os, Robert Whitaker, Martin Zinkler and many more.

B. chronische Angst nach längerer Antidepressiva- oder Tranquilizer-Verabreichung, Verwirrtheitszustände nach Lithiumentzug und chronische Psychosen nach Neuroleptika-Verabreichung. Basaglia S International Legacy From Asylum To Community written by Tom Burns and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-05-28 with Medical categories.

Franco Basaglia (1924-1980) was an Italian psychiatrist and activist who proposed the dismantling of psychiatric hospitals and pioneered new ideas about mental health and its treatment. Basaglia was also one of the principal proponents of Italy's Law 180, which effectively closed down large mental hospitals in Italy. His ideas and his disciples have had a decisive influence in the move away from institutional care in many parts of the world, particularly in continental Europe and South America. However, Basaglia is strikingly absent from the literature in Germanic and Anglophone psychiatry. Most of the literature about Basaglia in the last 40 years has been published by his followers and supporters and has often been largely positive, with little exploration of differing responses or possible limitations of his model. Basaglia's International Legacy: From Asylum to Community provides an overview of current thinking and the international influence of Franco Basaglia. This resource draws on the combined knowledge of clinicians, policy makers, historians, and social scientists, including a handful of Basaglia's collaborators. It provides an in-depth understanding and critical analysis of the various applications of his thinking worldwide. Organised into three broad sections, chapters examine Basaglia's work and influence in Italy; in the 'Basaglian' countries of Europe and South America; and in those countries where his influence has either been rejected or significantly modified. The Editors bring together the contributions and draw out the important messages (both positive and negative) for current clinical practice and development within international mental health services.

The first book in the world about the issue of successfully coming off psychiatric drugs primarily addresses people in treatment who decide to withdraw. It also addresses their relatives and therapists. +++ Millions of people are taking psychiatric drugs, such as Haloperidol, Prozac, Risperidone or Zyprexa; for them, detailed accounts of how others came off these substances without ending up in the doctor's office, are of fundamental interest. In this manual, 26 former psychiatric patients from Australia, Austria, England, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Sweden, Switzerland and the USA – and for the first time, a relative – write about their experiences with withdrawal. +++ Additionally, ten professionals, working in psychotherapy, medicine, psychiatry, social work, natural healing, on the Internet and even in a runaway-house, report on how they helped in the withdrawal process. +++ With all commercially available psychiatric drugs and their trade names marketed in Australia, the Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, Cameroon, Canada, Ethiopia, Fiji, Ghana, Great Britain, Guyana, India, Ireland, Jamaica, Kenya, Kiribati, Malaysia, Malta, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Rwanda, Singapore, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Tonga, Trinidad & Tobago, the USA, Vanuatu, and Zimbabwe. +++ Authors: Karl Bach Jensen · Wilma Boevink · Michael Chmela · Oryx Cohen · Susanne Cortez · Gábor Gombos · Katalin Gombos · Bob Johnson · Maths Jesperson · Kerstin Kempker · Susan Kingsley-Smith · Fiona Dale Milne · Mary & Jim Maddock · Eiko Nagano · Mary Nettle · Una M. This edited volume may be the 'definitive text' on methods and content in teaching psychology from an international and critical perspective. Chapters from internationally renowned contributors working clinically, educationally and in the community with a range of client groups, outline critical teaching by and for professionals and service recipients. This timely book offers a unique, research-based and philosophically coherent approach to teaching psychology including teaching methods, the lecture content of radical approaches to modern psychology and debates as to whether the aim of teaching is to liberate or control. Themes include the nature of pedagogy, the importance of teaching and learning style, the relevance of context and content and the ways in which traditional teaching forms a part of the disciplinary rather than critical project. Teaching Critical Psychology offers guidance in teaching pupils, students, peers and those on academic programmes at under-graduate and post-graduate level.
