This eBook contains ten articles on the topic of representation of abstract concepts, both simple and complex, at the neural level in the brain. Seven of the articles directly address the main competing theories of mental representation – localist and distributed. Four of these articles argue – either on a theoretical basis or with neurophysiological evidence – that abstract concepts, simple or complex, exist (have to exist) at either the single cell level or in an exclusive neural cell assembly. There are three other papers that argue for sparse distributed representation (population coding) of abstract concepts. There are two other papers that discuss neural implementation of symbolic models. The remaining paper deals with learning of motor skills from imagery versus actual execution. A summary of these papers is provided in the Editorial.

Grasp the future of wireless communication with this groundbreaking introduction Research and development are already underway on the sixth generation (6G) of wireless communication technology. The new requirements of 6G that arise from challenging new use cases render physical layer waveforms such as CDMA and OFDM inadequate. The OTFS waveform answers these new requirements, and recent research suggests it will play a decisive role in the future of wireless communication. OTFS Modulation – Theory and Applications provides the first ever foundational textbook that introduces this growing, state-of-the-art, field of research from first principles. Beginning with a thorough discussion of the fundamental principles of OTFS, both physical and theoretical, it rigorously situates OTFS modulation in a mathematical framework analogous to more familiar waveforms. The result is a groundbreaking contribution to communication theory and a must-have volume for wireless communication researchers. OTFS Modulation – Theory and Applications readers will also find: An expert author team including the inventor of OTFS modulation Detailed discussion of topics including the Zak theory of linear time-varying systems, delay-Doppler communication and radar sensing, machine learning, and many more Matlab code for OTFS transceiver implementation. OTFS Modulation – Theory and Applications is ideal for researchers, engineers, graduate and advanced undergraduate students, and standardization professionals working with wireless communication, signal processing, and radar sensing.

This volume investigates how, through critical engagement, the philosophy of John Searle in the Western analytic tradition and some thoughts and strands in Chinese philosophy can jointly contribute to the common philosophical enterprise and shows how such comparative methodology of constructive engagement is important or even indispensable in philosophical inquiry. The anthology includes Searle's keynote essay and 15 engaging pairs of essay-reply dialogues, each of which consists of one previously unpublished essay by some expert(s) and Searle's engaging reply, and which are organized into four subjects respectively on mind, language, morality, and meta-philosophical & methodological issues. The anthology also includes the volume editor’s theme introduction on the constructive-engagement movement in view of Searle’s philosophy and Chinese philosophy. Contributors include: Robert E. Allinson, Chung-ying Cheng, Kim-chong Chong, Chris Fraser, Yiu-ming Fung, Soraj Hongladarom, Joel W. Krueger, B. Jeannie Lum, Aloysius P. Martinich, Bo Mou, Anh Tuan Nuyen, John R. Searle, Avrum Stroll, Marshall D. Willman, Kai-yee Wong, and Yujian Zheng.

Human Computer Systems Interaction written by Zdzislaw S. Hippe and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-10-13 with Technology & Engineering categories.
For the last decades, as the computer technology has been developing, the importance of human-computer systems interaction problems was growing. This is not only because the computer systems performance characteristics have been im-proved but also due to the growing number of computer users and of their expectations about general computer systems capabilities as universal tools for human work and life facilitation. The early technological problems of man-computer information exchange – which led to a progress in computer programming languages and input/output devices construction – have been step by step dominated by the more general ones of human interaction with-and-through computer systems, shortly denoted as H-CSI problems. The interest of scientists and of any sort specialists to the H-CSI problems is very high as it follows from an increasing number of scientific conferences and publications devoted to these topics. The present book contains selected papers concerning various aspects of H-CSI. They have been grouped into five Parts: I. General H-CSI problems (7 papers), II. Disabled persons helping and medical H-CSI applications (9 papers), III. Psychological and linguistic H-CSI aspects (9 papers), IV. Robots and training systems (8 papers), V. Various H-CSI applications (11 papers).

Clinical neuropsychology has evolved by integrating in its field the knowledge derived from neuroanatomical, electrophysiological and psychophysical data, and has led to the development of rehabilitation tools. This volume tries to link the new concepts and discoveries in the field of sensorimotor coordination. It contains the main contributions of participants of an international symposium held in Lyon in 2001 entitled "Neural control of space coding and action production". The book emphasizes the reciprocal relationship between perception and action, and the essential role of active sensorimotor organization or reorganization in building up perceptual and motor representations of the self and of the external world.
