No basic or applied physics research can be done nowadays without the support of computing systems, ranging from cheap personal computers to large multi-user mainframes. Some research fields like high energy physics would not exist if computers had not been invented. Departing from the more conventional numerical applications, this series of workshops has been initiated to focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI) related developments, such as symbolic manipulation for lengthy and involved algebraic computations, software engineering to assist groups of developers in the design, coding and maintenance of large packages, expert systems to mimic human reasoning and strategy in the diagnosis of equipment or neural networks to implement a model of the brain to solve pattern recognition problems. These techniques, developed some time ago by AI researchers, are confronted by down-to-earth problems arising in high-energy and nuclear physics. All this and more are covered in these proceedings.

A vivid example of the growing need for frontier physics experiments to make use of frontier technology is in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and related themes.By AI we are referring here to the use of computers to deal with complex objects in an environment based on specific rules (Symbolic Manipulation), to assist groups of developers in the design, coding and maintenance of large packages (Software Engineering), to mimic human reasoning and strategy with knowledge bases to make a diagnosis of equipment (Expert Systems) or to implement a model of the brain to solve pattern recognition problems (Neural Networks). These techniques, developed some time ago by AI researchers, are confronted by down-to-earth problems arising in high-energy and nuclear physics. However, similar situations exist in other 'big sciences' such as space research or plasma physics, and common solutions can be applied. The magnitude and complexity of the experiments on the horizon for the end of the century clearly call for the application of AI techniques. Solutions are sought through international collaboration between research and industry.

This conference brought together the people working on 4π detectors to discuss what had been achieved, whether the results agreed, and to think about possible collaborations to measure the excitation function of several observables. It discussed the similarities and differences in the results obtained at low (100 MeV-1 GeV) and high (10 GeV-200 GeV) energies and outlined what the different fields could learn from each other, especially concerning correlations and particle production. It surveyed the success and also the insufficiency of the present theoretical approaches and discussed the direction in which they have to improve. Finally it gave an account of new developments in data analysis (wavelets, neural networks etc.).

Genetic Algorithms And Fuzzy Logic Systems written by Elie Sanchez and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1997 with Computers categories.

Ever since fuzzy logic was introduced by Lotfi Zadeh in the mid-sixties and genetic algorithms by John Holland in the early seventies, these two fields widely been subjects of academic research the world over. During the last few years, they have been experiencing extremely rapid growth in the industrial world, where they have been shown to be very effective in solving real-world problems. These two substantial fields, together with neurocomputing techniques, are recognized as major parts of soft computing: a set of computing technologies already riding the waves of the next century to produce the human-centered intelligent systems of tomorrow; the collection of papers presented in this book shows the way. The book also contains an extensive bibliography on fuzzy logic and genetic algorithms.

This book contains papers presented at the 2nd International Conference on Unconventional Models of Computation (UMCK'2K), which was held at Solvay Institutes, Brussels, Belgium, in December 2000. Computers as we know them may be getting better and cheaper, and doing more for us, but they are still unable to cope with many tasks of practical interest. Nature, though, has been 'computing' with molecules and cells for billions of years, and these natural processes form the main motivation for the construction of radically new models of computation, the core theme of the papers in this volume. Unconventional Models of Computation, UMCK'2K covers all major areas of unconventional computation, including quantum computing, DNA-based computation, membrane computing and evolutionary algorithms.

Computational Physics written by Philipp Scherer and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-07-17 with Science categories.

This textbook presents basic and advanced computational physics in a very didactic style. It contains very-well-presented and simple mathematical descriptions of many of the most important algorithms used in computational physics. The first part of the book discusses the basic numerical methods. The second part concentrates on simulation of classical and quantum systems. Several classes of integration methods are discussed including not only the standard Euler and Runge Kutta method but also multi-step methods and the class of Verlet methods, which is introduced by studying the motion in Liouville space. A general chapter on the numerical treatment of differential equations provides methods of finite differences, finite volumes, finite elements and boundary elements together with spectral methods and weighted residual based methods. The book gives simple but non trivial examples from a broad range of physical topics trying to give the reader insight into not only the numerical treatment but also simulated problems. Different methods are compared with regard to their stability and efficiency. The exercises in the book are realised as computer experiments.
