This book reports the most recent, advanced, successful, and real applications of ergonomics in order to improve the human well-being and performance in a short term, as well as the organizational performance in a long term. The book is organized as follows: Physical Ergonomics. This section reports case studies where physical risk factors are presented in the workplace, such as physical risk factors including uncomfortable body postures, repetitive movements, force application, manual material handling, and physical environmental conditions. In addition, case studies must report applications from physical ergonomics methods, for instance, RULA, REBA, OWAS, NIOSH, JSI, Suzane Rodgers, ERIN, among others. Cognitive Ergonomics. This section reports the implementation of ergonomic tools, techniques, and methods in real case studies. These applications are aimed to know, decrease, and control cognitive and psychological risk factors, such as mental workload, information processing, situation awareness, human error identification, and interface analysis. These applications may include the following methods NASA-TLX, SWAT, CWA, SHERPA, HET, TAFEI, SAGAT, SART, SACRI, QUIS, SUMI, to mention a few of them. Macro-ergonomics. This section is focused on the analysis, design, and evaluation of work systems. It reports case studies where risk factors are beyond a specific workstation. These risk factors may include supervision styles, teamwork management, task variety, social relationships, organizational culture, organizational communication, technology, work schedules, and motivation, among others. In addition, case studies report the application of macro-ergonomic methods, such as MOQS, focus group, participatory ergonomics, HITOP, MAS, and MEAD, among others.

Handbook Of Control Room Design And Ergonomics written by Toni Ivergard and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-10-01 with Technology & Engineering categories.

First published two decades ago, the first edition of Handbook of Control Room Design and Ergonomics: A Perspective for the Future became a benchmark for the field. Current-day process control encompasses a new generation of computer systems with enormous capabilities, including new display technologies. These new and emerging technologies integrated with human factors create an interconnectivity that enhances organizational development. This new edition of the handbook addresses developments in the concept of "Control Rooms". It includes modern approaches that emphasize the role of people in learning for self-development and in shaping their work environments. New in the Second Edition: Extensive coverage of the use of the control room and its related computer system outside the work of monitoring and supervising the processes Discussion and explanation of how the control room can also be used for the purposes of education and simulation training Discussion of the use of the control system for optimizing and developing the existing systems and processes A section on new ideas and philosophies about organizational design and job design as these are applied to control room related work Proposed organizational designs of the future Theoretical background about learning, learning in the workplace, and lifelong learning Creativity and learning are rapidly becoming integral parts of the design of work environments and work processes and utilize the ICT potential of modern control systems. Using original case studies, the authors describe and illustrate some creative and exciting organizational designs of the future, including new perspectives learning, learning in the workplace, and lifelong learning. Taking a holistic view, they make a strong argument for integrating in the workplace of the new control centers in the context of society as a whole, including global concerns such as environmental protection, energy conservation, and sustainability.

Develop a healthier connection between worker and work with this practical introduction The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that 34% of all workdays lost each year are the result of work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs). These disorders result from a mismatch between a worker, their working conditions, and the task they perform. Improperly designed tasks or equipment, insufficient downtime between shifts or tasks, or even simple sitting position can all produce WMSDs. The key insights into preventing these disorders are produced by ergonomics, the scientific study of human bodies as they relate to objects, systems, and environments, especially work environments. Occupational Ergonomics: A Practical Approach aims to supply an ergonomic toolkit for creating healthier relationships between workers’ bodies and their work. Beginning with a set of foundational ergonomic principles, it then details multiple assessment techniques in ways easily adapted to specific workplace situations. This balance of theory and practice has made Occupational Ergonomics an essential reference concerning human beings and the work they do. Readers of the second edition will also find: Up-to-date ergonomic research reflecting the latest clinical and workplace data. Entirely new chapters on Work Physiology, Total Worker Health, Return on Investment, and more. Major revisions to chapters on Elements of an Ergonomic Program, Workstation Design, Work-Related MSDs, How to Conduct an Assessments, and Office Ergonomics Detailed and updated case studies applying ergonomic assessment techniques to common workplace scenarios. Occupational Ergonomics is a must for workplace safety managers, safety coordinators, ergonomics program coordinators, facilities managers, and any professionals concerned with the work environment, and worker health and safety.
