Eine Verkehrswende ist nötig. Während dieser Aussage nahezu von allen Seiten zugestimmt wird, kommt die praktische Umsetzung dieses gesellschaftlichen Großprojekts nicht schnell genug voran. Obwohl in Wissenschaft und Praxis viele Lösungsansätze und Konzepte existieren, tut sich die Politik häufig schwer, die notwendigen Strategien und Maßnahmen für eine Verkehrswende umzusetzen. Grund dafür sind (erwartete) Widerstände von Gruppen, die bisher vom autogerechten Verkehrssystem profitieren und die notwendigen Verhaltensänderungen als nachteilig empfinden. Darüber hinaus nimmt zwar das Bewusstsein für nachhaltiges Verhalten in der Bevölkerung zu, häufig jedoch ohne eine wirksame Verhaltensänderung auszulösen. Objektive Verbesserungen im öffentlichen Verkehrssystem führen zwar häufig zu einer höheren Nutzung von Bus und Bahn, jedoch selten zu Lasten der Pkw-Nutzung. Obwohl auch hier wissenschaftliche Erkenntnisse zu Motiven und der Motivation bei der Verkehrsmittelwahl vorliegen, ist eine systematische Umsetzung dieser Erkenntnisse in der Praxis bisher nicht gelungen. Vor diesem Hintergrund beschäftigen sich die Nahverkehrs-Tage 2023 mit der zentralen Frage, wie die Verkehrswende erfolgreich umgesetzt werden kann. Dabei werden sowohl das Verhalten auf individueller Ebene als auch die Umbau- und Gestaltungsprozesse auf gesellschaftlicher Ebene betrachtet. Aufbauend auf den psychologischen Grundlagen des Mobilitätsverhaltens werden Beispiele aus Wissenschaft und Praxis vorgestellt, die Erfolgsfaktoren und Hemmnisse für nachhaltiges Verhalten herausarbeiten. Dabei spielen preis- und tarifpolitische Interventionen wie die Einführung des Deutschlandtickets eine besondere Rolle. CO2-neutral and zero-emission mobility require electricity to be generated from regenerative sources of energy. Power generation from wind and solar energy, however is dependent on the weather and is therefore not stable. The irregularities that occur in nature can result in unacceptable voltage fluctuations in the power grid. For that reason, the availability of highly flexible loads and storage systems is becoming particularly important. Electric vehicles, with their grid-relevant properties as controllable power consumers and electricity storage systems, could help to stabilize future power grids.

The main objective of these updated global guidelines is to offer health-based air quality guideline levels, expressed as long-term or short-term concentrations for six key air pollutants: PM2.5, PM10, ozone, nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide and carbon monoxide. In addition, the guidelines provide interim targets to guide reduction efforts of these pollutants, as well as good practice statements for the management of certain types of PM (i.e., black carbon/elemental carbon, ultrafine particles, particles originating from sand and duststorms). These guidelines are not legally binding standards; however, they provide WHO Member States with an evidence-informed tool, which they can use to inform legislation and policy. Ultimately, the goal of these guidelines is to help reduce levels of air pollutants in order to decrease the enormous health burden resulting from the exposure to air pollution worldwide.

Assembly lines are productive systems, which are very efficient for homogeneous products. In the automotive industry, an assembly line is used in the production of several vehicle variants, including numerous configurations, options, and add-ins. As a result, assembly lines must be at the same time specialized to provide high efficiency, but also flexible to allow the mass customization of the vehicles. In this book, the planning of assembly lines for uncertain demand is tackled and optimization algorithms are offered for the balancing of such lines. Building an assembly line is a commitment of several months or even years, it is understandable that the demand will fluctuate during the lifetime of an assembly line. New products are developed, others are removed from the market, and the decision of the final customer plays a role on the immediate demand. Therefore, the variation and uncertainty of the demand must be accounted for in an assembly line. About the author Celso Gustavo Stall Sikora is an industrial engineer and was a research assistant at the Institute for Operations Research at the University of Hamburg where he received his PhD in 2021.
