Here John advises us that loving one another is not an option or a suggestion, it is a commandment. John doesn’t want any believer to become like Adam and Eve’s firstborn, Cain. That happened because Cain was under the influence of Satan. This is, therefore, a warning not to mess with the world. So, what if they hate us? We are bound for everlasting life in the presence of God. That’s why death has no power over us. And that’s why, if our thoughts do not tell us that we are guilty, we will not be afraid to come to God. We can pray to God and we can ask Him to help us. He will give us what we ask Him for. That is because we obey His commands and we do the things that please Him. Furthermore, we should all love each other because God makes us able to love other people. Everyone who loves other people confirms our claim to be a child of God. If anyone says clearly that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in that person. And that person lives together with God. We know the kind of love that God has for us. That’s why if we love God, we will not be afraid of Him. So, how do we know that we love God’s children? We know it when we love God and we do what He tells us to do.

A one-volume commentary, written and edited by South Asian Biblical scholars on all the books of the Bible. For the purposes of this commentary "South Asia" was defined as the SAARC countries, namely India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Bhutan and the Maldives. The contributing scholars from these countries—addressing these countries' specific concerns—have adopted the following key principles: Integrity: Articles are written within the confines of the Lausanne Covenant and all contributions are in line with and support the confessional direction of the Lausanne Covenant. Interpretation: The commentary offers readers a contextual and readable guide, interpreting the biblical text section by section rather than delving too deeply into critical and exegetical details. South Asian: All authors are scholars writing from within their own contexts for the people of South Asia. The focus of this commentary is three-fold: exegetical, contextual, and applied. Articles explain the meaning of the text, relate that meaning to the context, and apply it to wider life and ministry. Understanding what the Bible teaches book by book. The following features are specifically designed to help you as you study each book of the Bible: Introduction to each book sketches the context and main themes of the book and its relevance to South Asia. Outline shows the structure of the book and can help to identify preaching topics. Subheadings break the book up into manageable portions. Bold references highlight verses being discussed and help you find your place quickly. Italics identify quoted verses being discussed at that point in the commentary. Applications are built into the text in many places. Further reading: each of the authors suggest other commentaries you could consult.

Contextualization In The New Testament written by Dean Flemming and has been published by InterVarsity Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-06-06 with Religion categories.

Winner of a Christianity Today Book Award Honored as one of the "Fifteen Outstanding Books for Mission Studies" by International Bulletin of Missionary Research From Cairo to Calcutta, from Cochabamba to Columbus, Christians are engaged in a conversation about how to speak and live the gospel in today's traditional, modern and emergent cultures. The technical term for their efforts is contextualization. Missionary theorists have pondered and written on it at length. More and more, those who do theology in the West are also trying to discover new ways of communicating and embodying the gospel for an emerging postmodern culture. But few have considered in depth how the early church contextualized the gospel. And yet the New Testament provides numerous examples. As both a crosscultural missionary and a New Testament scholar, Dean Flemming is well equipped to examine how the early church contextualized the gospel and to draw out lessons for today. By carefully sifting the New Testament evidence, Flemming uncovers the patterns and parameters of a Paul or Mark or John as they spoke the Word on target, and he brings these to bear on our contemporary missiological task. Rich in insights and conversant with frontline thinking, this is a book that will revitalize the conversation and refresh our speaking and living the gospel in today's cultures, whether in traditional, modern or emergent contexts.

The Spirit who inspired the authors of the New Testament is at work today around the globe, as evidenced by the explosive growth of pentecostal, charismatic, and renewalist movements; the number of adherents is now estimated at more than half a billion. There is a clear need for a balanced, affordable, and accessible commentary series aimed at Christians who identify as Spirit-filled. The Word and Spirit Commentary on the New Testament series emphasizes how we listen alongside ancient audiences for the Spirit's voice in our time and contexts. Written by pastorally sensitive biblical scholars from the Spirit-filled tradition, these commentaries explore how God works in the biblical texts and how Christians can expect God to work today, even if in new or culturally surprising ways. Series editors are Holly Beers, Westmont College, and Craig S. Keener, Asbury Theological Seminary. In this addition to the series, respected New Testament scholar Holly Beers engages Colossians and Philemon in their ancient setting and explores their message for Spirit-filled Christians today. Images, illustrations, and sidebars on pentecostal/charismatic/revival history or insights are included.

First And Second Maccabees written by Daniel J. Harrington and has been published by Liturgical Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012 with Religion categories.

Comprehensive and understandable, these books bring the relevance of the Old Testament to Bible study participants, teachers, students, preachers, and all readers of the Bible. The series is filled with recent scholarship, provides vital background, and addresses important questions such as authorship and cultural context. Often neglected, the books of First and Second Maccabees are important for Christians, as in them is told how the Jewish people established the political and religious culture into which Jesus was born. The martyr stories inform the early Christian martyrdoms, and the books are written in Greek, the language in which the Jews of Jesus time read the scriptures. More importantly, as Father Harrington notes, without the Maccabees the fate of Judaism (and with it Christianity and Islam) was uncertain.
