Attention And Information Processing In Infants And Adults written by B. A. Campbell and has been published by Psychology Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-01-02 with Psychology categories.

First published in 1991. The impetus for this book and the conference upon which it was based stemmed from the authors’ observation that the interrelated phenomena of attention and information processing were the focus of intensive theoretical analysis and empirical research in many different scientific disciplines. The goal of the conference upon which this volume is based was to bring together a distinguished group of investigators from different fields who had rarely (or never) interacted. The specific issues addressed in the present volume concern the changes that occur in attention and information processing during development, the role of selective attention and pre-attentive mechanisms in information processing, the allocation of processing resources, the physiological correlates of attention, and the role of attention-like processes in learning and memory in animals. The participants were from all over the world and represented the areas of psychophysiology, human infancy, developmental psychobiology, animal learning, autonomic regulation, and psychopathology.

Joint Attention written by Chris Moore and has been published by Psychology Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-03-05 with Psychology categories.

It is perhaps no exaggeration to suggest that all of what is intrinsically human experience is grounded in its shared nature. Joint attention to objects and events in the world provides the initial means whereby infants can start to share experiences with others and negotiate shared meanings. It provides a context for the development of both knowledge about the world and about others as experiencers. It plays a central role in the development of the young child's understanding of both the social and nonsocial worlds and in the development of the communicative interplay between child and adult. The first devoted to this important topic, this volume explores how joint attention first arises, its developmental course, its role in communication and social understanding, and the ways in which disruptions in joint attention may be implicated in a variety of forms of abnormal development including autism.

Baby See!: Fun PatternsHigh-Contrast, Black & White Book For NewbornsBook Size: 10 x 8 Get comfortable, snuggle up with your baby and slowly look through this charming high-contrast, black and white book. Allow your baby to develop his/her mind with this easy to see introduction to FUN PATTERNS. The book includes bold images to help stimulate your child's developing mind. Designed for babies 6 weeks to 6 months, the bold black-and-white high-contrast images will engage your baby and provide a calming, natural learning experience. These pictures maximize visual stimulation and appear to encourage infant development in the early months. Babies respond to the strong contrast between black and white, which helps to stimulate development within your baby's eyes. Helping your child develop his or her vision by looking at high-contrasting black-and-white images is a good start for nurturing your baby's visual development. High contrast shapes and patterns provide your baby with something simple and engaging to focus on which in turn will allow his/her mind to rest.High-contrast shapes are usually very basic and may even appear to be a little boring to adults, but they are designed to hold your baby's attention. Anything with very obvious contrast - such as black and white edges and lines - is an optimal stimulant for the visual system.Newborn babies are highly attracted to black and white images due to their limited vision when first born. A newborn retina can only detect large contrasts between light and dark, or black and white.High-contrasting, black and white images with sharp outlines are therefore much easier for your baby to see in these first few months of life. Your baby will be completely absorbed when this black and white book is put in front of them. Baby Vision - Birth to 4 months From birth to about 4 months of age, your baby's eyes will not focus on objects more than 8 inches from his/her face. Your child will look intently at the high-contrast images but he/she will not have yet developed the ability to easily tell the difference between two objects or move his/her eyes between two images. However...looking at these types of images is perfect training! Allowing your child to repeatedly look at these contrasting black and white images will help increase your baby's attention span. High-contrasting black-and-white books or images are easiest for your baby to see at this age. By eight weeks, your baby will begin to more easily focus his/her eyes on things. There have been studies where many parents have reported that their newborn's attention span increased from 10 seconds to 90 seconds after only one week of looking at black and white image books for just a few minutes a day. The high-contrast images in this book will allow your child to track with more ease because of his/her increased interest. Tracking helps your baby to learn where an object is and how it differs from its background. The beautifully designed, striking and stylish images in this book are ideal for babies just beginning to look and learn. The large images in this book will help to calm and also captivate your baby's interest while at the same time provide the building blocks for his/her developing mind. Buy Now! The Development Of Attention written by J.T. Enns and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1990-08-23 with Psychology categories.

This volume presents an up-to-date review of developmental aspects of human attention by leading researchers and theorists. The papers included in the first section consider the ways in which newborns are pretuned to visual, auditory, linguistic, and social features of their environment, as well as how selectivity to these features changes in the first year of life. The following section examines properties of the visual and auditory world that are attention-getting for children. Developmental increases in capacity and strategy are also examined in this section through the study of perception, memory, problem-solving and language. Section III explores several ways in which selective processing can fail in development (e.g. autism, hyperactivity, and psychopathy) while Section IV reports on those aspects of selectivity that are lost (and preserved) in the aging process.

This Brief synthesizes findings from recent experiments on jealousy in infants with insights from pioneering thinkers in developmental science. This unique volume also identifies facial, vocal, and bodily responses associated with jealousy as well as situations of differential treatment by caregivers that may bring them about. This knowledge is as useful in studying children's emotional development as it is in addressing jealousy-based challenges in growing families. Among the featured topics: Jealousy in infants, defended and defined. A theory of jealousy as temperament. Sadness, anger, fear, and love. Individual differences and normativity. Child and contextual influences on individual differences. Implications for clinical intervention: preparing for a sibling's arrival.
