Next Generation Transport Networks: Data, Management, and Control Planes provides a tutorial and reference information for next generation telecommunication network technologies. This insightful and accessible overview includes key technologies that comprise the backbone of the networking infrastructure, such as access, metro and long-haul segments. Written by industry veterans, this work uniquely balances and blends three key perspectives on high-speed networks fundamental to understanding transport mechanisms for potential implementation: the data, management, and control planes. Readers will readily learn how transport networks function, how they are used, how layers are managed, and how standards guide developing technologies. Included in this volume: Industry standards from the ITU-T (G- and M-series), ANSI/ATIS, and IEEE Future data plane trends in terms of mapping Ethernet frames/streams or IP packets into PoS and GFP for WAN transport; virtual concatenation with LCAS of SONET, DS1/DS3/E1/E3, and OTN signals; optical transport including G.709 OTN; and MAN/WAN data access through IEEE 802.17 RPR Switching: High speed circuit and packet switching using multi-stage Clos as well as multi-dimensional distributed switching approaches Control Plane – SS7, ATM PNNI, Automatic Switched Optical/Transport Network Architecture (G.ASON/G.ASTN) and protocols for routing and signaling- GMPLS,RSVP-TE, OSPF-TE Transport Network architectures for access, metro and long-haul segments Self-healing: perspectives on protection and restoration across ring and mesh topologies; discussion of new and emerging approaches for restoration such as p-cycle, SBPP, PWCE Transport Network Management – TMN layers, transport network management requirements, technologies – SNMP, SOAP/XML, TL1, and OSMINE The depth and breadth ofcoverage coupled with carefully chosen illustration, e.g. of the complex-frame formats, and summary tables for quick reference, make Next Generation Transport Networks: Data, Management, and Control Planes valuable for telecommunications professionals as well as a handy reference for network researchers.

Next Generation Transport Networks Leveraging Universal Traffic Switching And Flexible Optical Transponders written by Bodhisattwa Gangopadhyay and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017 with Technology categories.
Recent developments in communication technology contributed to the growth of network traffic exponentially. Cost per bit has to necessarily suffer an inverse trend, posing several challenges to network operators. Optical transport networks are no exception to this. On one hand, they have to keep up with the expectations of data speed, volume, and growth at the agreed quality-of-service (QoS), while on the other hand, a steep downward trend of the cost per bit is a matter of concern. Thus, the proper selection of network architecture, technology, resiliency schemes, and traffic handling contributes to the total cost of ownership (TCO). In this context, this chapter looks into the network architectures, including the optical transport network (OTN) switch (both traditional and universal), resiliency schemes (protection and restoration), flexible-rate line interfaces, and an overall strategy of handover in between metro and core networks. A design framework is also described and used to support the case studies reported in this chapter.

A reliable and focused treatment of the emergent technology of fifth generation (5G) networks This book provides an understanding of the most recent developments in 5G, from both theoretical and industrial perspectives. It identifies and discusses technical challenges and recent results related to improving capacity and spectral efficiency on the radio interface side, and operations management on the core network side. It covers both existing network technologies and those currently in development in three major areas of 5G: spectrum extension, spatial spectrum utilization, and core network and network topology management. It explores new spectrum opportunities; the capability of radio access technology; and the operation of network infrastructure and heterogeneous QoE provisioning. 5G Networks: Fundamental Requirements, Enabling Technologies, and Operations Management is split into five sections: Physical Layer for 5G Radio Interface Technologies; Radio Access Technology for 5G Networks; 5G Network Interworking and Core Network Advancements; Vertical 5G Applications; and R&D and 5G Standardization. It starts by introducing emerging technologies in 5G software, hardware, and management aspects before moving on to cover waveform design for 5G and beyond; code design for multi-user MIMO; network slicing for 5G networks; machine type communication in the 5G era; provisioning unlicensed LAA interface for smart grid applications; moving toward all-IT 5G end-to-end infrastructure; and more. This valuable resource: Provides a comprehensive reference for all layers of 5G networks Focuses on fundamental issues in an easy language that is understandable by a wide audience Includes both beginner and advanced examples at the end of each section Features sections on major open research challenges 5G Networks: Fundamental Requirements, Enabling Technologies, and Operations Management is an excellent book for graduate students, academic researchers, and industry professionals, involved in 5G technology.
