Nicaraguan Odyssey is the story of an American Duster pilot who with his two pilot companions and their airplanes, make the journey to a very unstable country in Central America, Nicaragua, in 1953. The old adage of just getting there, is one half of the story. Tropical storms, revolutions in progress, holiday revelry and third world methods, slow the progress of the trip. However, after persevering through all of their trials and tribulations they arrive to find themselves welcomed by a very generous and loving group of people who make every effort possible to keep them happy and well entertained by the lovely girls and friends of the Plantation owners in the city of Leon. All of the work is not drudgery, there are some very hilarious activities, as well as a few close calls with the infamous riptide of Poneloya Beach. An attempted Assassination of the President in their presence reminds them of where they are. There are several brushes with hazards of the occupation. Nicaraguan Odyssey will keep you turning the page to discover what Pete Harberg does next.

In his first adventure since the revelation that he’s a parent, Dirk Pitt must uncover the truth behind the myth of another long-lost father-figure, Homer’s Odysseus, if he’s going to stop a dangerous cult from reshaping the earth in their own image. Fraternal twins, Summer Pitt and Dirk Pitt, Jr., are working to determine the origin of a strange brown tide infesting the ocean off the shore of Nicaragua when two startling things happen: Summer discovers an artifact, something strange and beautiful and ancient. And the worst storm in years boils up out of the sky, heading straight for them and a nearby floating luxury resort hotel called Ocean Wanderer. The peril for everybody concerned is incalculable. And now that Dirk Pitt has learned he’s a father, he will stop at nothing to protect his two children. He rushes into the chaos, only to find that what’s left in the storm’s wake makes the furies of nature pale in comparison. For there is an all-too-human evil at work in that part of the world, and Summer’s relic may be the only clue to the man calling the shots. Whoever he is, he’s connected to a cult that believes the Celts, also known as the Achaeans, reached the New World millennia before the accepted history suggests. If he’s right, his ancestors laid the foundation for the work he will soon complete—and our world will be a very different place. Though if Summer's discovery is to be believed, the world is already a very different place...

Walo, an idealistic young man, dreams of leaving his mundane hometown in Nicaragua and moving overseas to live the good life with his Spanish girlfriend. It doesn't make much sense to stay, anyway- he's treated like an outsider and subjected to constant ridicule by seemingly everyone in town. But to get a plane ticket, he needs cash, which isn't easy to come by in the poorest country in Latin America. However, his quest for money only seems to get him deeper and deeper into trouble, putting him into conflict with everyone around him as he repeatedly sacrifices his own principles and relationships in order to keep his dream from falling apart. As his decisions set in motion an unpredictable journey towards opportunity in foreign lands, it becomes apparent that finding your place in this world doesn't have as much to do with where you are, but who you are. Whether he eventually realizes that or not is anyone's guess...

The Jaguar Smile written by Salman Rushdie and has been published by Random House this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-02-16 with Travel categories.

“I did not go to Nicaragua intending to write a book, or, indeed, to write at all: but my encounter with the place affected me so deeply that in the end I had no choice.” So notes Salman Rushdie in his first work of nonfiction, a book as imaginative and meaningful as his acclaimed novels. In The Jaguar Smile, Rushdie paints a brilliantly sharp and haunting portrait of the people, the politics, the terrain, and the poetry of “a country in which the ancient, opposing forces of creation and destruction were in violent collision.” Recounting his travels there in 1986, in the midst of America’s behind-the-scenes war against the Sandinistas, Rushdie reveals a nation resounding to the clashes between government and individuals, history and morality.

After her father's death, Sarah Rutledge returns from North Carolina to Nicaragua in an attempt to prevent the family's property from being expropriated by the Sandinista government. The novel begins with Sarah's childhood on the coffee farm where her British-American family has lived for almost a century. Natural disasters, civil conflicts, and political changes force her to ponder who belongs in Nicaragua, just where she belongs, to whom she belongs, and what belongs to her. Author John Keith's life was significantly shaped by two social transformations of the twentieth century, the civil rights movement in the United States and the new vision of mission and development by churches in Central America. In Canebrake Beach: A Novella and Four Short Stories (2012) he reflected on the relationships of black and white people in the South over a span of seventy years. In Nicaraguan Gringa: Claiming a Home, he explores the evolving relationships of nations and their citizens as ruling regimes ebb and flow.

Nicaragua Way written by Nina Serrano and has been published by Estuary Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-09-01 with Fiction categories.

Nicaragua Way tells the story of Lorna Almendros, a San Francisco Nicaraguan-American poet, passionately engaged in supporting revolutionary struggles in Latin America and the Sandinista solidarity movement in the U.S. Nicaragua Way follows Lorna, a single mother, searching for her roots, raising a daughter, falling in love, while facing deaths, griefs, intrigues, and her fears of menopause, empty nest blues, and aging. Through it all, she writes poems. Set in San Francisco and Managua between 1975 and 1989, the novel portrays a rich cast of characters, including Rini, Lorna’s daughter; Eddie, an organizer and revolutionary guerrilla fighter; Helen, her best friend, and a city politician; and Maria Rosa, a Nicaraguan-exiled immigrant. They move between San Francisco’s activist-arts community and Nicaragua, building support for change in the shadow of the U.S. undeclared wars in Central America.
