Since the popularization of the Internet, the written language has enjoyed immense linguistic interest, especially since the electronic communication sphere has produced an abundance of linguistic manifestations (or more clearly than previously recorded). Although the so-called "Internet language" has often been the focus of research, hardly any more comprehensive publication has so far been devoted solely to orthographic peculiarities in electronic use that go beyond the descriptive approach and take qualitative and quantitative aspects into account. In particular, the work illuminates the strategic use of orthography that deviates from the norm. The basis of the investigation is a body created independently by the author from public comments on articles in a number of online news portals. In order to counter the anonymity of the social composition and to avoid a prevalence of certain social speaker groups, a comprehensive system of criteria was developed and applied in the material collection. In order for the phenomena to be examined profitably with regard to their pragmatic dimension, the contextualization perspective according to Gumperz (1982) was used as the authoritative theoretical framework, the functions relevant to communication in the explicit non-standard writing, which in many cases only in the written medium and thus independently of the oral language emerge, allowed to determine.
