“You may think you know Dog the Bounty Hunter. Think again. This time, I’m writing my story—my way.” Within Nine Lives and Counting, Duane “Dog” Chapman not only offers fresh perspective on well-known life events but also ventures into behind-the-scenes territory and backstories never shared publicly. This book sheds new light on memories of the painful events that shaped the author’s childhood, the surprising hope he found in prison, triumphs and failures from his days as a single dad, lessons learned from his job as a vacuum-cleaner salesman, his story of learning to bounty hunt, and many other highs and lows from his life. Most telling of all, Nine Lives and Counting follows Chapman’s faith in Jesus and the greater story he is focused on sharing with the world.

Can I borrow your husband, Missis? For a hug to curl at his side in the night, spoon-backed, not for his dawn snores but for him to fix my plug. Can I borrow your husband, sister? After years telling stories embellished with time, shared memories, not his toothbrush, but his fingertips wiping tears. Can I borrow your wisdom, Mister? Your take on life to discuss the Sunday papers and world affairs, not watching sport or sorting socks like a wife. Mary Bourne is a former midwife, who is a professional artist with a B.A. in Fine Arts - as well as a poet. Her poems have a wide range, from turning a pot, caressing the rim "moist like a kiss", to her childhood on a farm, teasing both animals and farm labourers, and speaking to the "birth mother" who gave her away for adoption. There are also poems about Florence, Marrakech and Goa, as well as the sands of Norfolk and cliff paths of Cornwall.

At the grand old age of 59 I woke up in a London hospital following a 10 and-a-half hour operation for stomach cancer. The last time I had woken up following surgery was after being gunned down on the streets of Dover at 3am one Sunday morning with my good friend Greg, by, it turned out, Drug Runners from the North of England. 3 days prior to this marathon operation I was working on board a ship which had just left Norway on route to the Arctic. The vessel was the James Clark Ross, a British Antarctic Survey ship which I had worked with on numerous voyages. My life has been it seems, me going from one unusual or downright crazy situation to another, then another. They have been the result of being in the wrong place at the right time, or vice-versa. By my own doing through good, and bad choices. In this book are just some of the more memorable stories which happened to me, just as described. These involve tales of my early life and of my involvement in fights too numerous to mention, my Army days, and my security jobs which have taken me from armed anti-piracy roles in the Indian Ocean, to Armed security jobs in Afghanistan and Iraq. There are my spells in prison and my involvement in murders, laughable robberies, assaults, shootings, rape allegations, Crown Court farces and far more besides. On occasions I have had to change some names to protect the not-so-innocent, and you will understand why when you peek at the pages within `Nine Lives and Counting`. Prepare yourself for some laughs, some winces, and a lot of surprises that make up just a few of the weird moments that have made up for a very eventful life. Enjoy the read.

Welcome to the fascinating world of a professional past-life regression therapist In Nine Lives (and Counting) the author opens her files on some of her most interesting and impactful client stories collected over the past sixteen-plus years. The reader is introduced to clients coming from all walks of life and wide-ranging belief systems and experiences. Each seeks resolution of one or more of a kaleidoscope of issues: an entrenched emotional problem such as depression or guilt; a thorny relationship dynamic that has defied traditional therapeutic approaches; an ongoing physical ailment that baffles the medical profession; or the answer to the age-old question, "What is my life purpose?" By uncovering and exploring clients' memories of prior lifetimes, stories emerge that offer a very unique and personal view into personalities of the past and how they relate to current life situations. These life stories are often surprising, at times quite intense, and always intriguing. The regression process unravels the threads of unfinished business that have kept energy tied-up, and typically enables the client to move forward more freely in his or her current life. As well as being a useful therapeutic approach, past-life regression work is also spiritual work. A pervasive theme throughout Nine Lives (and Counting) is the eternal nature of our existence and the important spiritual lessons that can be learned from each temporary human lifetime. The author emphasizes the commonality of the human experience which defies race, nationality, religious, and gender differences. The book richly illustrates how each of us has typically been on both sides of many issues: be it wealth/poverty, power/powerlessness, kindness/cruelty, and religious, political or separatist beliefs. The ability to access spiritual guidance from a higher source is a key element of each regression story. Messages from the spiritual realm emphasize over and over the love filled energy of the universe and the need to connect with and help each other. Readers see that walking through the doorway of death is merely the end of one experience, leading to the next. Written in an engaging and welcoming style, Nine Lives (and Counting) is a thought-provoking and inspiring read. It will appeal to a wide variety of audiences.

For fans of Katherine Applegate's The One and Only Ivan comes the swashbuckling story of a little cat's adventures on the high seas Captain Natick does not want to take a kitten on board his ship when it sets sail in 1837, but his daughter convinces him that the scrawny yellow cat will bring good luck. Onto the ship the kitten goes, and so begins the adventurous, cliff-hanging, lucky life of Jacob Tibbs. At first, Jacob’s entire world is the ship’s hold, where the sailors heave their heavy loads and long-tailed rats scurry in the darkness. But before long, Jacob’s voyage takes him above deck and onward to adventure. Along the way, Jacob will encounter loss and despair, brave thunderous storms at sea, face down a mutiny, survive on a desert island, and above all, navigate the tricky waters of shipboard life and loyalties.
