A thorough reference work bridging the gap between contemporary and traditional approaches to noise problems Noise in semiconductor devices refers to any unwanted signal or disturbance in the device that degrades performance. In semiconductor devices, noise is attributed to hot-electron effects. Current advances in information technology have led to the development of ultrafast devices that are required to provide low-noise, high-speed performance. Microwave Noise in Semiconductor Devices considers available data on the speed versus noise trade-off and discusses optimal solutions in semiconductors and semiconductor structures. These solutions are of direct interest in the research and development for fast, efficient, and reliable communications systems. As the only book of its kind accessible to practicing engineers, the material is divided into four parts-the kinetic theory of fluctuations and its corollaries, the methods of measurements of microwave noise, low-dimensional structures, and, finally, devices. With over 100 illustrations presenting recent experimental data for up-to-date semiconductor structures designed for ultrafast electronics, together with results of microscopic simulation where available, these examples, tables, and references offer a full comprehension of electronic processes and fluctuation in dimensionally quantizing structures. Bridging the apparent gap between the microscopic approach and the equivalent circuit approach, Microwave Noise in Semiconductor Devices considers microwave fluctuation phenomena and noise in terms of ultrafast kinetic processes specific to modern quantum-well structures. Scientists in materials science, semiconductor and solid-state physics, electronic engineers, and graduate students will all appreciate this indispensable review of contemporary and future microwave and high-speed electronics.

Dynamical Cognitive Science written by Lawrence M. Ward and has been published by MIT Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002 with Psychology categories.

An introduction to the application of dynamical systems science to the cognitive sciences. Dynamical Cognitive Science makes available to the cognitive science community the analytical tools and techniques of dynamical systems science, adding the variables of change and time to the study of human cognition. The unifying theme is that human behavior is an "unfolding in time" whose study should be augmented by the application of time-sensitive tools from disciplines such as physics, mathematics, and economics, where change over time is of central importance. The book provides a fast-paced, comprehensive introduction to the application of dynamical systems science to the cognitive sciences. Topics include linear and nonlinear time series analysis, chaos theory, complexity theory, relaxation oscillators, and metatheoretical issues of modeling and theory building. Tools and techniques are discussed in the context of their application to basic cognitive science problems, including perception, memory, psychophysics, judgment and decision making, and consciousness. The final chapter summarizes the contemporary study of consciousness and suggests how dynamical approaches to cognitive science can help to advance our understanding of this central concept.

This book contains the revised contributions of all the speakers of the fifth AACD Workshop which was held in Lausanne on April 2-4, 1996. It was organized by Dr Vlado Valence of the EPFL University and MEAD of Lausanne. The program consisted of six tutorials per day during three days. The tutorials were presented by experts in the field. They were selected by a program committee consisting of Prof. Willy Sansen of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Prof. Rudy van de Plassche of Philips Research and the University of Technology Eindhoven and Prof. 10han Huijsing of the Delft University of Technology. The three topics mentioned above have been selected because of their importance in present days analog design. The other topics that have been discussed before are: in 1992 : Operational amplifiers Analog to digital convereters Analog computer aided design in 1993 : Mixed AID cicuit design Sensor interface circuits Communication circuits in 1994 : Low-power low-voltage design Integrated filters Smart power circuits in 1995 : Low-noise, low-power, low-voltage design Mixed-mode design with CAD tools Voltage, current and time references Each AACD workhop has given rise to the publication of a book by Kluwer entitled "Analog Circuit Design". This is thus the fifth book. This series of books provides a valuable overview of all analog circuit design techniques and achievements. It is a reference for whoever is engaged in this discipline.

The volume constitutes the proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Noise in Physical Systems and 1/f Fluctuations (ICNF'95) held in Palanga, Lithuania, in the period 29 May - 3 June 1995.International conference of fluctuation phenomena has a rich history. Previous ones were held in St. Louis (USA, 1993), Kyoto (Japan, 1991), Budapest (Hungary, 1989), Montreal (Canada, 1983), etc. The conference proved to be successful in bringing together specialists in fluctuation phenomena in very different areas, and providing a bridge linking theorists and applied scientists involved in the design of new generation of electronic devices. Correspondingly, the volume covers fundamental aspects of noise in various fields of science and modern technology. Mesoscopic fluctuations, noise in high temperature superconductors, in nanoscale structures, in optoelectronic and microwave devices, fluctuation phenomena in biological systems and human body are in the spotlight.

Fractals Of Brain Fractals Of Mind written by Earl Mac Cormac and has been published by John Benjamins Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1996-06-28 with Psychology categories.

This collective volume is the first to discuss systematically what are the possibilities to model different aspects of brain and mind functioning with the formal means of fractal geometry and deterministic chaos. At stake here is not an approximation to the way of actual performance, but the possibility of brain and mind to implement nonlinear dynamic patterns in their functioning. The contributions discuss the following topics (among others): the edge-of-chaos dynamics in recursively organized neural systems and in intersensory interaction, the fractal timing of the neural functioning on different scales of brain networking, aspects of fractal neurodynamics and quantum chaos in novel biophysics, the fractal maximum-power evolution of brain and mind, the chaotic dynamics in the development of consciousness, etc. It is suggested that the ‘margins’ of our capacity for phenomenal experience, are ‘fractal-limit phenomena’. Here the possibilities to prove the plausibility of fractal modeling with appropriate experimentation and rational reconstruction are also discussed. A conjecture is made that the brain vs. mind differentiation becomes possible, most probably, only with the imposition of appropriate symmetry groups implementing a flowing interface of features of local vs. global brain dynamics.
