"One of the most inventive and prolific cartoonists working today."—Vulture In the past ten years, Michael DeForge has released eleven books. While his style and approach have evolved, he has never wavered from taut character studies and incisive social commentary with a focus on humor. He has deeply probed subjects like identity, gentrification, fame, and sexual desire. In “No Hell,” an angel’s tour of the five tiers of heaven reveals her obsession with a haunting infidelity. In “Raising,” a couple uses an app to see what their unborn child would look like. Of course, what begins as a simple face-melding experiment becomes a nightmare of too-much-information where the young couple is forced to confront their terrible choices. “Recommended for You” is an anxious retelling of our narrator’s favorite TV show—a Purge-like societal collapse drama—as a reflection of our desire for meaning in pop culture. Each of these stories shows the inner turmoil of an ordinary person coming to grips with a world vastly different than their initial perception of it. The humor is searing and the emotional weight lingers long after the story ends. Heaven No Hell collects DeForge’s best work yet. His ability to dig into a subject and break it down with beautiful drawings and sharp writing makes him one of the finest short story writers of the past decade, in comics or beyond. Heaven No Hell is always funny, sometimes sad, and continuously innovative in its deconstruction of society.

Heaven And Hell written by Bart D. Ehrman and has been published by Simon and Schuster this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-03-23 with Body, Mind & Spirit categories.

Over half of Americans believe in a literal heaven, in a literal hell. Most people who hold these beliefs are Christian and assume they are the age-old teachings of the Bible. Ehrman shows that eternal rewards and punishments are found nowhere in the Old Testament, and are not what Jesus or his disciples taught. He recounts the long history of the afterlife, ranging from The Epic of Gilgamesh up to the writings of Augustine, focusing especially on the teachings of Jesus and his early followers. Ehrman shows that competing views were intimately connected with the social, cultural, and historical worlds out of which they emerged. -- adapted from jacket

No Hope For Heaven No Fear Of Hell written by James C. Kearney and has been published by University of North Texas Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-09-15 with History categories.

Two family names have come to be associated with the violence that plagued Colorado County, Texas, for decades after the end of the Civil War: the Townsends and the Staffords. Both prominent families amassed wealth and achieved status, but it was their resolve to hold on to both, by whatever means necessary, including extra-legal means, that sparked the feud. Elected office was one of the paths to success, but more important was control of the sheriff’s office, which gave one a decided advantage should the threat of gun violence arise. No Hope for Heaven, No Fear of Hell concentrates on those individual acts of private justice associated with the Stafford and Townsend families. It began with an 1871 shootout in Columbus, followed by the deaths of the Stafford brothers in 1890. The second phase blossomed after 1898 with the assassination of Larkin Hope, and concluded in 1911 with the violent deaths of Marion Hope, Jim Townsend, and Will Clements, all in the space of one month.

There Is No Hell According To The Bible written by John D. Frey and has been published by Archway Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-05-19 with Religion categories.

Many Christians are deeply disturbed by the idea that there is a real hell in which people suffer forever and ever according to the Bible. This is especially true with respect to Christians who believe that they have loved ones who might end up in this horrendous place. What a relief it would be for them to see that such a hell is not claimed by the Bible. To that end, author John D. Frey leads readers on a well-researched journey that investigates what the Bible really says about hell. The author provides overwhelming evidence that there is no hell in which anyone suffers in any way and this evidence is based on what is claimed by the Bible. The book contains 12 chapters. Chapter 1 presents the events that occurred in a place near the walls of Jerusalem called the valley of Hinnom, later translated to “hell”. Chapters 2-3 primarily deal with events surrounding Jesus and Isaiah. Chapters 4-5 discuss the events in the parables of Jesus and visions of John in the book of Revelation. Chapter 6 explores Bible passages that explain what finally happens to the unrighteous. Chapters 7-8 explore why both Gentile Christians of the second century and some modern Christian denominations believe in a hell in which unrighteous people will suffer forever. Chapters 9-10 explore the concepts of Sheol and Hades in the Bible and what Jewish Rabbis say about hell. Chapter 11 confirms the existence of heaven. Finally, in chapter 12, concluding thoughts are presented.

The Case For Heaven written by Lee Strobel and has been published by Zondervan this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-09-14 with Religion categories.

Bestselling and award-winning author Lee Strobel interviews experts about the evidence for the afterlife and offers credible answers to the most provocative questions about what happens when we die, near-death experiences, heaven, and hell. We all want to know what awaits us on the other side of death, but is there any reliable evidence that there is life after death? Investigative author Lee Strobel offers a lively and compelling study into one of the most provocative topics of our day. Through fascinating conversations with respected scholars and experts--a neuroscientist from Cambridge University, a researcher who analyzed a thousand accounts of near-death experiences, and an atheist-turned-Christian-philosopher--Strobel offers compelling reasons for why death is not the end of our existence but a transition to an exciting world to come. Looking at biblical accounts, Strobel unfolds what awaits us after we take our last breath and answers questions like: Is there an afterlife? What is heaven like? How will we spend our time there? And what does it mean to see God face to face? With a balanced approach, Strobel examines the alternative of Hell and the logic of damnation, and gives a careful look at reincarnation, universalism, the exclusivity claims of Christ, and other issues related to the topic of life after death. With vulnerability, Strobel shares the experience of how he nearly died years ago and how the reality of death can shape our lives and faith. Follow Strobel on this journey of discovery of the entirely credible, believable, and exhilarating life to come.

What if- Everything we've ever believed about life after death is wrong? What if- Our beliefs about the reasons for much of human behavior, attitudes and mental acuity are also wrong? Suppose- Autism, homosexuality, criminal behavior, mental illness and other aberrations from the norm are caused by the same essential factor? And suppose- Changes in human behavior such as teenage angst, descent into criminality, a sudden successful desire to better ourselves, incredible success in finance or business and other transformations are due to a phenomena that is known to some but never discussed? And then what if- All this knowledge is suddenly revealed by a small group of people who have figured it out but are in fear for their lives for doing so? The afterlife isn't what he thought it was. When Daniel Nelson's cancer-ravaged body finally gives up he finds out that dying was easy compared to what comes after. He learns that while there still doesn't appear to be absolute proof of heaven or hell, there is indeed life after death--for some. But what a life! Dan's mind is now attached to that of a fourteen year-old girl, Jeannie Stanforth, who was nearby when he died, but she has no knowledge of his presence. What does this mean? Are there others like him? If so, what are the consequences for their hosts? Under dire necessity, Dan finally makes contact with Jeannie several years later and eventually Jeannie reveals the details to her father John Stanforth and to her stepmother, Rosie. Rosie immediately collapses in relief and tears because, like Jeannie, she thought she was the only one who had an attached mind, that of a young man with Asperger's syndrome who passed his incredible talent for numbers on to her. From there the three of them form a foundation to explore what all this means. They find a few others like them but then they learn that there is a Cabal of men and women with multiple attached minds who have gained tremendous financial and political power through the synergistic effect of the minds working together. The Cabal is adamant that no one learn where their ability came from. After two attempts on their lives, Jeannie and her new husband, Abe, and her parents decide they must reveal the presence of attached minds to the public in order to save their own lives. And then all hell breaks loose. An amazing, unusual, completely original novel that will challenge almost every belief you've ever had!

Imagine There S No Heaven written by Mitchell Stephens and has been published by St. Martin's Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-02-25 with Religion categories.

The historical achievements of religious belief have been large and well chronicled. But what about the accomplishments of those who have challenged religion? Traveling from classical Greece to twenty-first century America, Imagine There's No Heaven explores the role of disbelief in shaping Western civilization. At each juncture common themes emerge: by questioning the role of gods in the heavens or the role of a God in creating man on earth, nonbelievers help move science forward. By challenging the divine right of monarchs and the strictures of holy books, nonbelievers, including Jean- Jacques Rousseau and Denis Diderot, help expand human liberties, and influence the early founding of the United States. Revolutions in science, in politics, in philosophy, in art, and in psychology have been led, on multiple occasions, by those who are free of the constraints of religious life. Mitchell Stephens tells the often-courageous tales of history's most important atheists— like Denis Diderot and Salman Rushdie. Stephens makes a strong and original case for their importance not only to today's New Atheist movement but to the way many of us—believers and nonbelievers—now think and live.
