Rosaria Costa se acercó tambaleante al púlpito y comenzó a hablar con voz entrecortada. Sus palabras sonaron tan sencillas como mordaces. La iglesia estaba abarrotada de gente. Frente a ella había cinco ataúdes colocados en orden. En uno de ellos yacía su marido, el agente Vito Schifani. En su discurso, Rosaria pedía justicia y también se dirigió abiertamente a los hombres de la mafia, convencida de su presencia en ese lugar en un día tan triste para ella, para las familias de las demás víctimas y para todos los italianos honestos. Así sonaron sus palabras por los altavoces de la iglesia: “que sepáis que también vosotros podéis lograr el perdón... yo os perdono [...] si tenéis el valor de cambiar... pero ellos no cambian”, y entre sollozos y aplausos repitió con mirada evanescente esas últimas palabras despojadas de esperanza: “ellos no quieren cambiar, no quieren...” Matteo Re es doctor en Historia Contemporánea y profesor desde el año 2003 en la Universidad Rey Juan Carlos de Madrid. Ha sido profesor en la UNED, en el Istituto Italiano di Cultura de Madrid y en la Escuela Diplomática. En la actualidad es miembro del Grupo de Investigación en Historia de las Relaciones Internacionales (GHISTRI) de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid dirigido por el profesor Juan Carlos Pereira y de la Cátedra de Investigación GIB-Presdeia (Vicerrectorado de Investigación/ URJC) sobre la presencia española en Iberoamérica dirigida por el profesor José Manuel Azcona donde estudia temas de violencia política (su principal línea de investigación). Así mismo es responsable de la asignatura Actitudes sociales hacia el terrorismo del Master universitario Análisis y prevención del terrorismo de la Universidad Rey Juan Carlos dirigido por el profesor Rogelio Alonso. A pesar de los esfuerzos provenientes desde distintos ámbitos para atajarla, la delincuencia organizada transnacional es un fenómeno que ha ido creciendo en magnitud e importancia con el paso de las décadas. Así las cosas, resulta necesario plantearse, por un lado, qué nuevos mecanismos podrían adoptarse y, por otro lado, repensar la importancia y el alcance de los ya existentes para hacer frente a dicha amenaza. La presente obra ofrece en su primer capítulo una posible respuesta acerca de lo que ha de entenderse por «delincuencia organizada transnacional». Posteriormente, dedica su segundo capítulo a presentar tanto una panorámica de su evolución como una sinopsis de sus rasgos actuales. Finalmente, en su tercer capítulo, analiza la declaración de los testigos en el proceso, para lo cual es necesario garantizar previamente su protección, como un mecanismo imprescindible para que las respectivas Administraciones de Justicia de los diferentes Estados puedan desarticular las organizaciones criminales operativas y, de ese modo, situarse más cerca de ganar aquello que se ha dado en llamar «lucha contra la delincuencia organizada». Diego Montes Noblejas (Manzanares, 1996) es graduado en Derecho y en Economía por la Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha, donde obtuvo el Premio Extraordinario Fin de Estudios en ambas titulaciones, titulado en el Máster en Estudios Internacionales y Europeos, con especialización en Desafíos Internacionales y Europeos de carácter público, por la Universitat de Vàlencia y Experto Universitario en Crimen Organizado Transnacional y Seguridad por el Instituto Universitario General Gutiérrez Mellado de la Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED). INTRODUCCIÓN La publicación de este libro tiene lugar tras celebrarse el setenta aniversario de la aprobación de la Constitución italiana, tras la cual se convocaron las primeras elecciones dentro del marco de la I República italiana, nacida un año antes.
