Este libro trata sobre lo que creemos debe ser el sentido del cultivo de la verdad en la época actual. Se inicia presentando, de una manera intuitiva y anecdótica, lo que el autor considera uno de los problemas más graves con los que se enfrentan las sociedades occidentales y occidentalizadas del presente: el problema de la pobreza y fragmentación del sentido de lo que acontece en nuestra vida y de la vida misma en su totalidad. Mediante la mezcla de un lenguaje alegórico con uno de corte más académico-filosófico, se va generando una crítica del modo como nos relacionamos con la realidad en el presente, es decir, un examen crítico de la constitución histórico-ontológica de la época que vivimos. Tal examen constituye la última etapa de un recuento general de la forma como históricamente devino esa constitución histórico-ontológica, sobre cuya base se pueda comprender el problema de la pobreza y fragmentación del sentido del acontecer. En este escenario, el cultivo de la verdad se erige, no solo como el modo de comprender dicha problemática, sino, también, como el modo de generar posibilidades para su enfrentamiento.
