In a time when environmental decay and mass extinctions have made the earth nearly uninhabitable, Mike Wheeler has been put in charge of a daring mission by the World Council to restore the earth to health. But recognizing the unworkability of the project, he secretly sets off on a radically different path with the aid of a select crew of like-minded colleagues and an eccentric old scientist named Noah. Defying all odds and racing against time, they work together to put into motion an alternative plan - one that blurs the distinction between science and faith, and that, in their opinion, offers the only real chance to save the earth.

This book is about changing the way you look at projects, sharing a completely new way of running them. A way that focuses on people and leadership rather than the nuts and bolts of tasks. That approach was fine in the past, but now, with the rapid changes in the working environment and the technology supporting it, we need a less complex way, a way that values people. Before the industrial age changed how we lived our lives, people were still able to build great cathedrals, they made tremendous leaps in scientific understanding. From biblical times, there's a great example of project management, in Noah's Ark. Noah was given a crystal clear purpose and detailed specification, with the "how" left up to him. In this post-industrial age, perhaps it is time to return full circle, to emphasise the value of leadership, providing space for the project team to deliver. As you read, you will learn about the really important stuff of leading a project, a simple three step process to get you from A to Z. You will discover what should be taken care of at each step on your journey. You'll find out about the tools and techniques, along with how to use them, at each step along the way.

Scholars from science, art, and humanities explore the meaning of our new image worlds and offer new strategies for visual analysis. We are surrounded by images as never before: on Flickr, Facebook, and YouTube; on thousands of television channels; in digital games and virtual worlds; in media art and science. Without new efforts to visualize complex ideas, structures, and systems, today's information explosion would be unmanageable. The digital image represents endless options for manipulation; images seem capable of changing interactively or even autonomously. This volume offers systematic and interdisciplinary reflections on these new image worlds and new analytical approaches to the visual. Imagery in the 21st Century examines this revolution in various fields, with researchers from the natural sciences and the humanities meeting to achieve a deeper understanding of the meaning and impact of the image in our time. The contributors explore and discuss new critical terms of multidisciplinary scope, from database economy to the dramaturgy of hypermedia, from visualizations in neuroscience to the image in bio art. They consider the power of the image in the development of human consciousness, pursue new definitions of visual phenomena, and examine new tools for image research and visual analysis.

Noah's Ark, The Novel is an action novel with a moral overtone. The main character, Noah Well, has a theory and a means to decrease the severity of great earthquakes expected in the 21st Century because of the realignment of the solar system. Biblical Noah warned of the great flood but only his family would believe him. Noah Well experiences the same problem with his theory to create explosions within the faults of potentially great earthquakes in order to diminish annd divert the deadly force. At the same time, Noah must deal with a desire for revenge because of the pain and suffering caused to his father, a Japanese POW. In the first chapter, the reader is introduced to a view of one-half of the hull of the Ark imbedded in rock at the top of a two hundred-foot cliff and adjoining a four-story home. Extending down from the top of the house to a swimming pool located next to the ocean is a four hundred-foot water slide. Before the first chapter ends, the house is attacked by an aircraft carrying a bomb as a threat for extortion. Air force fighter jets arrive and handle the problem. Further action scenes include the fracture of the Greenland ice cap causing Noah Well and his brother, Ivan, to be exposed to a death defying situation. Other scenes include numerous earthquakes and tsunamis either experienced actually or viewed on computer monitors as actual or simulated events. Locations for the scenes include Italy, Japan, Greenland, and Southern California. The timing for the story is the turn of the century when many catastrophic events have been predicted. Christmas of December 25, 1999 is followed by New Year's Eve to welcome in January 1, 2000. The reader experiences both events with the fun loving functional family in the novel. Early in the 21st Century, Noah's earthquake control theory is tested. Like the biblical reference to Noah, those who had faith benefited. Those who did not, suffered the consequences.

The story of Noah's flood is one of the best-loved and most often retold biblical tales, the inspiration for numerous children's books and toys, novels, and even films. Whether as allusion, archetype, or literal presence--the American landscape is peppered with "recreations" of the ark--the story of Noah's animals and the ark resonates throughout American culture and the world. While most think of Noah's ark as a dramatic myth, others are consumed by the quest for geological and archeological proof that the flood really occurred. Persistent rumors of a large vessel on the mountain of Ararat in Turkey, for instance, have led many pilgrims and explorers over the centuries to visit that fabled peak. Recent finds suggest that there may have been a catastrophic flood on the shores of the Black Sea some 7,600 years ago. Is this then the reality behind the ancient tale of Noah? More to the point, why does it matter? What does the story of the Flood mean to us and why does it so stir the collective imagination? When the Great Abyss Opened examines the history of our attempts to understand the Flood, from medieval Jewish and Christian speculation about the physical details of the ark to contemporary efforts to link it to scientific findings. Unraveling the mythical dimensions of the parallel Mesopotamian flood stories and their deeper social and psychological significance, J. David Pleins also considers the story's positive uses in theology and moral instruction. Noah's tale, however, has also been invoked as a means of justifying exclusion, racism, and anti-homosexual views. Pro-slavery advocates, for example, used the story of Noah's Curse on Ham's son Canaan to rationalize the enslavement of Africans. Throughout this expansive and lively book, Pleins sheds new light on our continuing attempts to understand this ancient primal myth. Noah's Flood, he contends, offers a unique case study that illuminates the timeless and timely question of how fact and faith relate.

The recent translation of a Babylonian tablet launches a groundbreaking investigation into one of the most famous stories in the world, challenging the way we look at ancient history. Since the Victorian period, it has been understood that the story of Noah, iconic in the Book of Genesis, and a central motif in Judaism, Christianity and Islam, derives from a much older story that existed centuries before in ancient Babylon. But the relationship between the Babylonian and biblical traditions was shrouded in mystery. Then, in 2009, Irving Finkel, a curator at the British Museum and a world authority on ancient Mesopotamia, found himself playing detective when a member of the public arrived at the museum with an intriguing cuneiform tablet from a family collection. Not only did the tablet reveal a new version of the Babylonian Flood Story; the ancient poet described the size and completely unexpected shape of the ark, and gave detailed boat building specifications. Decoding this ancient message wedge by cuneiform wedge, Dr. Finkel discovered where the Babylonians believed the ark came to rest and developed a new explanation of how the old story ultimately found its way into the Bible. In The Ark Before Noah, Dr. Finkel takes us on an adventurous voyage of discovery, opening the door to an enthralling world of ancient voices and new meanings.
