This text presents and studies the method of so –called noncommuting variations in Variational Calculus. This method was pioneered by Vito Volterra who noticed that the conventional Euler-Lagrange (EL-) equations are not applicable in Non-Holonomic Mechanics and suggested to modify the basic rule used in Variational Calculus. This book presents a survey of Variational Calculus with non-commutative variations and shows that most basic properties of conventional Euler-Lagrange Equations are, with some modifications, preserved for EL-equations with K-twisted (defined by K)-variations. Most of the book can be understood by readers without strong mathematical preparation (some knowledge of Differential Geometry is necessary). In order to make the text more accessible the definitions and several necessary results in Geometry are presented separately in Appendices I and II Furthermore in Appendix III a short presentation of the Noether Theorem describing the relation between the symmetries of the differential equations with dissipation and corresponding s balance laws is presented.

This book offers an overview of the research results presented by group members and guests of the Ghent Analysis & PDE Center during the weekly seminar that took place from 2021 to 2022. It is an informal event of the Analysis & PDE Center and associated researchers, where everyone can present their work or relevant literature for about 20-30 minutes. The seminar aims to exchange ideas and foster effective learning and collaboration. In this book, group members and guests summarise their results presented during the seminar and provide outlooks for future work. In this way, the book also provides an overview of the recent developments in the Ghent Analysis & PDE Center. The main topics are functional analysis, Fourier analysis, noncommutative analysis, geometric analysis, partial differential equations of different types, harmonic analysis, functional inequalities, pseudo-differential operators, fractional derivatives, special functions, microlocal analysis, inverseproblems and imaging. The target audience of this book is any researcher working in the above fields.

A truly Galilean-class volume, this book introduces a new method in theory formation, completing the tools of epistemology. It covers a broad spectrum of theoretical and mathematical physics by researchers from over 20 nations from four continents. Like Vigier himself, the Vigier symposia are noted for addressing avant-garde, cutting-edge topics in contemporary physics. Among the six proceedings honoring J.-P. Vigier, this is perhaps the most exciting one as several important breakthroughs are introduced for the first time. The most interesting breakthrough in view of the recent NIST experimental violations of QED is a continuation of the pioneering work by Vigier on tight bound states in hydrogen. The new experimental protocol described not only promises empirical proof of large-scale extra dimensions in conjunction with avenues for testing string theory, but also implies the birth of the field of unified field mechanics, ushering in a new age of discovery. Work on quantum computing redefines the qubit in a manner that the uncertainty principle may be routinely violated. Other breakthroughs occur in the utility of quaternion algebra in extending our understanding of the nature of the fermionic singularity or point particle. There are several other discoveries of equal magnitude, making this volume a must-have acquisition for the library of any serious forward-looking researchers.

The purpose of this book is to make available to beginning graduate students, and to others, some core areas of analysis which serve as prerequisites for new developments in pure and applied areas. We begin with a presentation (Chapters 1 and 2) of a selection of topics from the theory of operators in Hilbert space, algebras of operators, and their corresponding spectral theory. This is a systematic presentation of interrelated topics from infinite-dimensional and non-commutative analysis; again, with view to applications. Chapter 3 covers a study of representations of the canonical commutation relations (CCRs); with emphasis on the requirements of infinite-dimensional calculus of variations, often referred to as Ito and Malliavin calculus, Chapters 4-6. This further connects to key areas in quantum physics.

Modified gravity models play an important role in contemporary theoretical cosmology. The present book proposes a novel approach to the topic based on techniques from noncommutative geometry, especially the spectral action functional as a gravity model. The book discusses applications to early universe models and slow-roll inflation models, to the problem of cosmic topology, to non-isotropic cosmologies like mixmaster universes and Bianchi IX gravitational instantons, and to multifractal structures in cosmology.Relations between noncommutative and algebro-geometric methods in cosmology is also discussed, including the occurrence of motives, periods, and modular forms in spectral models of gravity.
