Let $\mathcal S$ be a second order smoothness in the $\mathbb{R} DEGREESn$ setting. We can assume without loss of generality that the dimension $n$ has been adjusted as necessary so as to insure that $\mathcal S$ is also non-degenerate. This title describes how $\mathcal S$ must fit into one of three mutually exclusive cases, and in each of these cases the authors characterize, by a simple intrinsic condition, the second order smoothnesses $\mathcal S$ whose canonical Sobolev projection $P_{\mathcal{S}}$ is of weak type $(1,1)$ in the $\mathbb{R} DEGR

If a black box simple group is known to be isomorphic to a classical group over a field of known characteristic, a Las Vegas algorithm is used to produce an explicit isomorphism. The proof relies on the geometry of the classical groups rather than on difficult group-theoretic background. This algorithm has applications to matrix group questions and to nearly linear time algorithms for permutation groups. In particular, we upgrade all known nearly linear time Monte Carlo permutation group algorithms to nearly linear Las Vegas algorithms when the input group has no composition factor isomorphic to an exceptional group of Lie type or a 3-dimensional unitary group.

In part 1 of this title the authors construct a diffeomorphism invariant (Colombeau-type) differential algebra canonically containing the space of distributions in the sense of L. Schwartz. Employing differential calculus in infinite dimensional (convenient) vector spaces, previous attempts in this direction are unified and completed. Several classification results are achieved and applications to nonlinear differential equations involving singularities are given.

Layer Potentials The Hodge Laplacian And Global Boundary Problems In Nonsmooth Riemannian Manifolds written by Dorina Mitrea and has been published by American Mathematical Soc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001 with Mathematics categories.
The general aim of the present monograph is to study boundary-value problems for second-order elliptic operators in Lipschitz sub domains of Riemannian manifolds. In the first part (ss1-4), we develop a theory for Cauchy type operators on Lipschitz submanifolds of co dimension one (focused on boundedness properties and jump relations) and solve the $Lp$-Dirichlet problem, with $p$ close to $2$, for general second-order strongly elliptic systems. The solution is represented in the form of layer potentials and optimal non tangential maximal function estimates are established. This analysis is carried out under smoothness assumptions (for the coefficients of the operator, metric tensor and the underlying domain) which are in the nature of best possible. In the second part of the monograph, ss5-13, we further specialize this discussion to the case of Hodge Laplacian $\Delta: =-d\delta-\delta d$. This time, the goal is to identify all (pairs of) natural boundary conditions of Neumann type. Owing to the structural richness of the higher degree case we are considering, the theory developed here encompasses in a unitary fashion many basic PDE's of mathematical physics. Its scope extends to also cover Maxwell's equations, dealt with separately in s14. The main tools are those of PDE's and harmonic analysis, occasionally supplemented with some basic facts from algebraic topology and differential geometry.
A Geometric Setting For Hamiltonian Perturbation Theory

A Geometric Setting For Hamiltonian Perturbation Theory written by Anthony D. Blaom and has been published by American Mathematical Soc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001 with Mathematics categories.
In this text, the perturbation theory of non-commutatively integrable systems is revisited from the point of view of non-Abelian symmetry groups. Using a co-ordinate system intrinsic to the geometry of the symmetry, the book generalizes and geometrizes well-known estimates of Nekhoroshev (1977), in a class of systems having almost $G$-invariant Hamiltonians. These estimates are shown to have a natural interpretation in terms of momentum maps and co-adjoint orbits. The geometric framework adopted is described explicitly in examples, including the Euler-Poinsot rigid body.

Set theory is an autonomous and sophisticated field of mathematics that is extremely successful at analyzing mathematical propositions and gauging their consistency strength. It is as a field of mathematics that both proceeds with its own internal questions and is capable of contextualizing over a broad range, which makes set theory an intriguing and highly distinctive subject. This handbook covers the rich history of scientific turning points in set theory, providing fresh insights and points of view. Written by leading researchers in the field, both this volume and the Handbook as a whole are definitive reference tools for senior undergraduates, graduate students and researchers in mathematics, the history of philosophy, and any discipline such as computer science, cognitive psychology, and artificial intelligence, for whom the historical background of his or her work is a salient consideration - Serves as a singular contribution to the intellectual history of the 20th century - Contains the latest scholarly discoveries and interpretative insights
