Ainda na mais tenra idade, identificávamos e distinguíamos a voz, os passos, os gestos e muito mais daqueles que nos eram próximos. Mais tarde, o olhar de forma atenta permitiu-nos perceber nossas repetições, embora com outra coreografia. Daí Um olhar sobre o nosso olhar. Por que esse olhar? Por óbvio, entendemos que o nosso olhar revela a verdade que nos parece única. É difícil entendermos que o outro tem uma outra verdade verdadeira sobre nós. É difícil aceitar que existem outras verdades e que ninguém é dono efetivo de coisa alguma, nem da própria vontade − como já foi dito "não faço o que quero e faço o que não quero". Mesmo assim, nada nos impede de sentirmos ter esse poder. Na busca desse poder sem quê nem pra quê, sobrevém a ideia de exterminar o que contraria, mesmo sabendo que o contrário é a essência da vida. Nessa demanda, bem sabemos o quanto o senso comum privilegia as aparências. Colore e disfarça o que lhe agrada, distorce e maldiz o que o incomoda. Não é isento de hipocrisia, mesmo assim lhe damos crédito e dizemos amém ao que afirma ser fato. Assim, vivemos próximos à marcha da insensatez que se assemelha à ação de um vírus que invade nossa mente, altera nosso comportamento e, a partir de então, contagia outras mentes, o que leva a ideia do absurdo a se esvair. Desaprendemos o que sabíamos quando crianças − que brincar de mentirinha era de mentirinha mesmo −, em prol de uma das mais complexas necessidades do homem: a resposta afetiva dos demais.

Post-compact city presents the hypothesis that another view on modern urbanism may provide us with clues for dealing with the challenges of the contemporary urban phenomenon. We argue that there is an urgent need for a design strategy that provides an alternative for, on the one hand, a recipe in order to make the non-compact compact and, on the other, the simple inclusion of the condition of non-place, non-city and unbuilt in a new expanded epistemology of urbanism.
