Deceptively simple and surprisingly addictive, Not Quite What I Was Planning is a thousand glimpses of humanity—six words at a time. One Life. Six Words. What's Yours? When Hemingway famously wrote, "For Sale: baby shoes, never worn," he proved that an entire story can be told using a half dozen words. When the online storytelling magazine SMITH asked readers to submit six-word memoirs, they proved a whole, real life can be told this way too. The results are fascinating, hilarious, shocking, and moving. From small sagas of bittersweet romance ("Found true love, married someone else") to proud achievements and stinging regrets ("After Harvard, had baby with crackhead"), these terse true tales relate the diversity of human experience in tasty bite-sized pieces. From authors Jonathan Lethem and Richard Ford to comedians Stephen Colbert and Amy Sedaris, to ordinary folks around the world, everyone has a six-word story to tell.

She attempts to locate her biological father, whom she has never had a real relationship with. Her search takes her to Florida where she stays with her great-uncle and cousin. While following up on seemingly dead ends in her search for her father, Jadyn discovers that sometimes things are not quite what they seem when she becomes involved in a heated love affair with a man named Julian, who may just be the death of her.

Memoir written by Ben Yagoda and has been published by Penguin this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-11-12 with Literary Criticism categories.
From a critically acclaimed cultural and literary critic, a definitive history and analysis of the memoir. From Saint Augustine?s Confessions to Augusten Burroughs?s Running with Scissors, from Julius Caesar to Ulysses Grant, from Mark Twain to David Sedaris, the art of memoir has had a fascinating life, and deserves its own biography. Cultural and literary critic Ben Yagoda traces the memoir from its birth in early Christian writings and Roman generals? journals all the way up to the banner year of 2007, which saw memoirs from and about dogs, rock stars, bad dads, good dads, alternadads, waitresses, George Foreman, Iranian women, and a slew of other illustrious persons (and animals). In a time when memoir seems ubiquitous and is still highly controversial, Yagoda tackles the autobiography and memoir in all its forms and iterations. He discusses the fraudulent memoir and provides many examples from the past?and addresses the ramifications and consequences of these books. Spanning decades and nations, styles and subjects, he analyzes the hallmark memoirs of the Western tradition?Rousseau, Ben Franklin, Henry Adams, Gertrude Stein, Edward Gibbon, among others. Yagoda also describes historical trends, such as Native American captive memoirs, slave narratives, courtier dramas (where one had to pay to NOT be included in a courtesan?s memoir). Throughout, the idea of memory and truth, how we remember and how well we remember lives, is intimately explored. Yagoda's elegant examination of memoir is at once a history of literature and taste, and an absorbing glimpse into what humans find interesting--one another.

Who is showing us the way? In ancient Palestine, when Jesus Christ asked people who they thought he was, one of their top guesses was the Old Testament prophet, Jeremiah. "Who do people say that I am?" "Some say Jeremiah or one of the prophets." There was something about Jesus that reminded people of Jeremiah. In our moment in history, when we desperately need leaders and role models to show us a better way, Jeremiah stands as a human cornerstone, a blueprint for dynamic living in the middle of desperate times. With compassion and biblical insight, author Chris Jackson shows us how ancient wisdom from Jeremiah's life can lead us into towering, dynamic living today.

Brilliant Bob My Husband With Alzheimer S Disease written by Sue Lehr and has been published by FriesenPress this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-04-24 with Health & Fitness categories.
This book is about our life before and after Alzheimer's Disease invaded and how, over the subsequent ten years, we did our best to fight, learn, adjust and live with this heinous disease as it progressed. Using the Seven Stages of Alzheimer's Disease as the framework, I describe our experiences, some strategies we tried, what we learned from a variety of sources, our dilemmas, fears and honest feelings. Our story is about love and resilience, but also about the frustrations of finding appropriate services, financial constraints, the limits of Medicare and Medicaid, the ins-and-outs of the nursing home industry, and our search for what was right for Bob as the disease overtook him. Bob had a PhD in Experimental Psychology, but that didn't stop this disease from destroying his mind. I have a PhD in Special Education, but that didn't mean I knew what to do or how to do it. Through personal journal entries at various times, I share my thoughts, feelings and my anguish. I learned with Bob, and with the help of family and friends, how to support and care for him so that he knew that we would always love him. This was not an easy story to tell, but I hope it helps others.
