Jean-François Taymans est l’un des esprits les plus féconds et les plus originaux de la pensée juridique notariale belge de ces 25 dernières années. Au cours de cette période, il aura exercé de nombreuses fonctions, tant dans les instances professionnelles du notariat que dans des institutions à vocation scientifique. Notaire à Bruxelles pendant 34 ans, il aura également assuré à l’U.C.L. plusieurs enseignements, pendant plus de 20 ans, en droit du notariat et en droit patrimonial de la famille, tant dans le programme de la licence puis du master complémentaire en notariat que dans le programme du master en droit. Il a assumé à deux reprises la présidence de la commission du master en notariat et a été un membre actif du Cefap (Centre de droit de la personne, de la famille et de son patrimoine). Ses contributions scientifiques sont aussi nombreuses qu’originales et déterminantes pour l’évolution des idées et de la pratique notariale. Il a été un pionnier dans de nombreux domaines touchant spécialement au droit patrimonial de la famille. Ses contributions et ses suggestions concernant les époux et les cohabitants auront influencé tant la réflexion juridique que la pratique notariale. En qualité de co-directeur du Répertoire notarial, il aura également participé à l’élaboration d’une somme juridique d’une qualité exceptionnelle. Le présent ouvrage est l’hommage que ses collègues universitaires et ses confrères ont tenu à lui rendre à l’occasion de son accession à l’honorariat.
