Die Biologie gewann im Dritten Reich ungeheuer an Prestige, da sie die nationalsozialistische Weltanschauung wissenschaftlich untermauern, d.h. die unumstößliche Richtigkeit der nationalsozialistischen Forderungen und Propagandathesen beweisen sollte. Schwerpunkt der Wissensvermittlung war die aus der Medizin herstammende Rassenlehre. Weitere Ziele des Biologieunterrichts waren u.a. die Erziehung zu Heimat- und Naturliebe sowie die Erziehung zu ganzheitlicher Naturauffassung. Grundlegend für alle Verordnungen, Lehrpläne und Vorschläge zur Unterrichtsgestaltung waren zwei Thesen: «Nationalsozialistisches Denken muß biologisches Denken sein» und «Nationalsozialismus ist politisch angewandte Biologie». Die politisch-ideologischen Inhalte des Biologieunterrichts sollten unvergeßlich in die Herzen der Jugend eingeprägt und das richtige Verständnis für die Gesetzgebung und die Politik der Nationalsozialisten geweckt werden. Entsprechend änderten die Nationalsozialisten auch die anzuwendende Lehrmethode, denn als hervorragende Demagogen waren sie auch geschickte Didaktiker.
