El Espacio Europeo de Educación Superior ha supuesto un cambio de paradigma en los modelos de enseñanza aprendizaje en la universidad. A la tradicional función de transmisión de conocimientos, en la sociedad de la información, aparecen nuevos retos, que sitúan en el centro del proceso de enseñanza aprendizaje al estudiante, a través de las competencias y los resultados de aprendizaje. La función docente ya no consiste, sólo, en transmitir conocimiento, sino sobre todo, favorecer, facilitar la adquisición de habilidades, destrezas y actitudes en torno a las temáticas objeto de estudio. Esto implica cambios en la actividad docente y discente Todos y todas defendemos la mejora y calidad de la enseñanza, pero la larga tradición universitaria y, aún hoy en día poderosísimas instituciones, supeditan la práctica docente por la acción investigadora, cuya práctica suele atribuir, por otra parte, mayor prestigio a quien la practica. De ninguna manera, sino más bien al contrario, debe entenderse que intentamos decir que la investigación no sea un contenido obligatorio y un contenido básico de desarrollo del docente universitario y además de compromiso con la sociedad; sin embargo, tenemos otro compromiso asociado y derivado de éste que nos exige devolver nuestros hallazgos a la sociedad en su conjunto mediante instrumentos y circuitos convencionales o mediante la reflexión y práctica didáctica. De otra parte, la universidad española en el proceso de cambio de la mano de la convergencia Espacio Europeo de Educación Superior, el rediseño de programas constituye una magnifica oportunidad para la creación conjunta y coherente de proyectos que superando los paradigmas basados en modelos docentes individualistas y centrados en un solo profesor; puedan configurarse espacios y tiempos para el planteamiento de proyectos compartidos, ofreciendo al alumnado una formación de vanguardia.
