This book increases the understanding of the concept and measurement of quality in private nursing homes for the elderly. The consumer's perspective of quality, obtained from in-depth reviews with residents in selected homes in England, forms the focus of the book. These results are compared with the views of professional care providers and those responsible for the regulation and inspection of nursing home care. Helen Bartlett gained a PhD in social policy from the University of Bath and has held research and teaching positions at universities in both the UK and Australia before taking up her current position in the Department of Health Sciences at the Hong Kong Polytechnic.

Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2016 in the subject Medicine - Public Health, grade: 1, Egerton University, language: English, abstract: This paper will provide an overview of caring for the elderly in which it will focus on caring for elderly at home verses nursing homes and assisted living. Caring for the elderly is becoming an enormous challenge to the U.S healthcare system. It has become a significant public health issue whereby the elderly population requires extensive care from their families. Currently, the population of persons aged 65 years and above is estimated to be 39.6 million, which is equivalent to12.9% of the total U.S population. Research indicates that the percentages of elderly persons have increased significantly in the last decade. In 2000, the percentage of the elderly population was found to be 12.4%, so it has increased by 0.5% within a span of 10 years, and this is predicted to reach as high as 19% by 2030. This implies that the population of older persons will be about 72.1 million which will be more than twice their population in the year 2000. In this context, care for the elderly will serve as the most principal approach in enhancing their health and social wellbeing. Caring for the elderly people involves numerous aspects, which require comprehensive evaluation to ensure that people at old-age enjoy a high quality of life. Ordinarily, elderly people are faced with health challenges owing to their aging bodies which are susceptible to illnesses. For instance, most old people experience mental degradation leading to memory loss. In addition, some people develop loss of vision and hearing abilities while others suffer from mental disorders such as Alzheimer’s and dementia. In theory, care-giving serves as the most principal requirement for the elderly for improved health. However, care-giving is usually faced with challenges owing to the complexity of decision making, availability of resources and experiences of care-givers. Ideally, elderly persons are supposed to be taken care of in a safe and healthy environment.

Long Term Care For The Elderly written by Betty H. Landsberger and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-05-10 with Social Science categories.

In the 1980s the need for long-term care for elderly people in Western societies was quite obvious from the increasing numbers of old and very old people in the population. Countries had responded in a number of different ways to cope with this need. Originally published in 1985, the central theme of this book is to explore these different ways and to probe beneath the surface level of institutions and specific programs. Beneath this level are a number of layers of care, consisting of attitudes, beliefs and values on a social as well as personal level. Thus, chapters two to six explore the surface level of services, goods, treatments, institutions, etc. provided in different countries for long-term care. Chapter seven looks at another layer, the role of government, chapter eight at ethical issues of human rights and chapter nine at the base layer, the views of elderly people themselves. The book draws mainly on information from the UK, USA, Germany and Scandinavia and will be of interest to all concerned with the health and social welfare of the elderly.

Nursing Homes And Assisted Living written by Peter S. Silin and has been published by JHU Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-11-16 with Family & Relationships categories.

Almost a decade ago, Peter S. Silin wrote Nursing Homes: The Family's Journey to provide family members with practical advice and emotional support. This successor volume incorporates the new and sometimes baffling world of assisted living. Nursing Homes and Assisted Living focuses on the psychological, emotional, and practical aspects of helping family members and seniors make a difficult transition. Silin approaches his subject with compassion and sensitivity, guiding readers through the process of finding the best possible care. He describes how nursing homes and assisted living facilities work and outlines the selection process; he explains how to prepare for the day a relative moves into a facility and suggests ways to help the resident settle in; he focuses on the family member's role in solving problems, obtaining good-quality care, and visiting. The author’s insights help caregivers cope with difficult decisions and deal with emotional issues such as guilt and grief, while celebrating the tender, rewarding aspects of being a caregiver. Vignettes from real-life caregivers narrating their experiences amplify Silin’s advice and will resonate with families. This book provides caregivers, family members, and seniors with the information they need to effect successful transitions. It is also a valuable tool for social workers, nurses, and family therapists.

"Elderly Care: Current Issues and Challenges first presents an analysis of the ethical and societal issues related to the introduction of new patient and care/caregiver monitoring technologies. A comprehensive review of assisted living technologies aimed at helping elderly people to perform activities of daily living is provided, and associated challenges identified through this review are discussed. The authors go on to maintain how it is incumbent on the Lebanese government to find ways to invest in economic and social development targeted at providing accessible and high-quality services to its older population to ensure a respectful and independent life. Socio-demographic changes, social and economic developments, health services and financing relative to the elderly population in Lebanon are discussed in further detail. Additionally, this compilation investigates the impact of further training of care workers on the quality of care in nursing homes in Canada through a multiple regression analysis technique. An overview of the aging populations in Hong Kong, Japan, and Germany is presented. The perceptions of nursing homes held by older and middle-aged adults and their expectations of what nursing homes will be like in the future are explored. Following this, the effects of a non-drug pain management program for older adults in a nursing home environment are assessed. A review of substance use and abuse coverage in Medicare home health is provided in conjunction with an exploratory study based on interviews of a sample of 26 home care social workers in the New York City metropolitan area. In closing, the authors discuss the findings of two studies on home care aides in Maine and, from the perspective of the study participants, offer recommendations for improving job conditions"--

It states and explains the principles underpinning safe, personalized, and dignified nursing home practice using an integrated, cooperative approach.
