This volume establishes a clear link between good nutrition and high productivity. It demonstrates that ensuring that workers have access to nutritious, safe and affordable food, an adequate meal break, and decent conditions for eating is not only socially important and economically viable but a profitable business practice, too. Food at Work sets out key points for designing a meal program, presenting a multitude of "food solutions" including canteens, meal or food vouchers, mess rooms and kitchenettes, and partnerships with local vendors. Through case studies from a variety of enterprises in twenty-eight industrialized and developing countries, the book offers valuable practical food solutions that can be adapted to workplaces of different sizes and with different budgets.

We all know the benefits of healthy eating, but in practice, it's often just not compatible with a busy, working lifestyle. Grabbing food on the go between meetings, before you rush to the gym, after catching up with friends – there's just not enough time to be fussy – what you eat often takes a backseat. But what if that didn't have to be the case? What if what you were eating actually gave you more time; boosting your productivity, increasing your focus, and ensuring that you didn't fall victim to that daily 3pm energy slump? Productivity and nutrition experts Graham Allcott and Colette Heneghan present a new way to think about what you eat: the Productivity Ninja way. A new book in the bestselling Productivity Ninja series, Work Fuel shows you how eating well can and should fit into your lifestyle, however busy it is. From surviving conferences and work trips to how to best put together your food shopping list, Work Fuel provides you with an investment plan, promising to improve your performance, focus and energy by changing the way that you eat.

Improving nutrition in developing nations is likely to require a multisectoral approach that involves a variety of ministries and organizations addressing particular aspects of the problem. Despite the promise of such multisectoral efforts, relatively little research has been done on how such efforts can be made effective. Working Multisectorally in Nutrition: Principles, Practices, and Case Studies provides much-needed evidence on this topic. Using case studies from Senegal and Colombia of successful multisectoral efforts to integrate action on nutrition, the book identifies common characteristics that likely contributed to the programs’ achievements. Key factors were inspiration and support from political leaders and technical staff; effective management approaches combined with operational flexibility; and processes that brought together a wide range of stakeholders and partners to share a common vision and provide them with a clear sense of how the benefits of participation would outweigh the costs. The history of these two programs suggests that addressing complex social problems such as malnutrition often requires going beyond a single, sector-bound agency and that the resulting multisectoral efforts need a strategy for action reflective of partner needs, conditions, and context. The lessons offered in this book can be used to inform and orient policymakers, practitioners, and advocates involved in multisectoral work, not only in combating malnutrition but also, more broadly, in engaging in cross-sectoral and interagency endeavors as a whole.

With dual-working households now the norm, Food, Families and Work is the first comprehensive study to explore how families negotiate everyday food practices in the context of paid employment. As the working hours of British parents are among the highest in Europe, the United Kingdom provides a key case study for investigating the relationship between parental employment and family food practices. Focusing on issues such as the gender division of foodwork, the impact of family income on diet, family meals, and the power children wield over the food they eat, the book offers a longitudinal view of family routines. It explores how the everyday meanings of food change as children grow older and negotiate changes in their own lives and those of their family members. Drawing on extensive quantitative data from large-scale surveys of food and diet – as well as qualitative evidence – to emphasise the larger global context of social and economic change and shifting patterns of family life, Rebecca O'Connell and Julia Brannen present a holistic overview of food practices within busy contemporary family lives. Featuring perspectives from both parents and children, this innovative approach to some of the most hotly-debated topics in food studies is a must-read for students and scholars in food studies, sociology, anthropology, nutrition and public health.
