Die Logistik verzeichnet ein rasantes Wachstum und befindet sich gleichzeitig in einem hart umkämpften Wettbewerbsumfeld. Um sich als Logistikunternehmen vom Wettbewerb abzusetzen, erwarten die Kunden verstärkt innovative Lösungen. Dennoch werden in der Logistik im Vergleich zu anderen Industrien weniger Innovationen generiert und sie erfolgen häufig erst als Reaktion auf Kundenwünsche. Meist entstehen nur kleinere Anpassungen an bereits bestehende Lösungen und keine radikalen Veränderungen. Dabei wird sowohl von Kunden als auch von Logistikern selbst auf den Bedarf an radikalen Logistikinnovationen hingewiesen. Vor diesem Hintergrund beschäftigt sich der Autor mit der Entstehung von radikalen Innovationen in der Logistik. Sein Ziel ist dabei die Unterstützung der Logistik bei der eigenständigen Entwicklung von radikalen Innovationen. Zum Erlangen des Zieles werden drei Fragestellungen sukzessive aufgestellt und bearbeitet: Zu Beginn wird durch Experteninterviews der aktuelle Entstehungsprozess von Innovationen in der Logistik erfasst und analysiert. Im zweiten Schritt wird eine Methode zur Generierung von radikalen Innovationen detaillierter untersucht. Aufbauend auf diesen Erkenntnissen, beschäftig sich die dritte Fragestellung mit der Ausgestaltung eines Vorgehens zur Entwicklung von radikalen Logistikinnovationen. Das dabei entwickelte Vorgehen wird durch Praxisvertreter der Logistik evaluiert. Das Ergebnis verdeutlicht, dass das entwickelte Vorgehen für die Generierung von radikalen Logistikinnovationen geeignet ist. Logistiker sind durch das beschriebene Vorgehen in der Lage, mit geringem Ressourceneinsatz in kürzester Zeit radikale Innovationen für ihre logistischen Problemstellungen zu erzeugen.
