O presente trabalho teve como objetivo o estudo da aplica��o do princ�pio da insignific�ncia nos crimes ambientais previstos na lei 9.605/1998 visando sua atua��o da lei penal como �ltima ratio nos casos de menor complexidade. Buscou-se apresentar o desenvolvimento da lei ambiental no decorrer dos anos e a necessidade de lei penal para regulamentar o bem jur�dico tutelado que possui relev�ncia para todos no planeta, vislumbrando assim o princ�pio da bagatela para sua utiliza��o e aplica��o nos casos de menor complexidade. Para a elabora��o deste, partiu da hip�tese das condena��es penais nos casos de crimes ambientais que possu�am uma afeta��o de menor agressividade a natureza, inicialmente o princ�pio da insignific�ncia n�o possui uma recep��o muito harmoniosa, uma vez que o direito tutelado � algo essencial para exist�ncia, sobreviv�ncia e manuten��o da humanidade. Na busca de melhor compreender este fen�meno empreendeu-se de leituras nas diversas legisla��es que tratam do assunto em quest�o, tais como doutrinas, Constitui��o Federal de 1988, a lei 9.605/98, o c�digo penal brasileiro e Jurisprud�ncias.
