O Conforto Pelas Imagens Mentais Na Depress O Ansiedade E Stresse written by João Luís Alves Apóstolo and has been published by Imprensa da Universidade de Coimbra / Coimbra University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-09-01 with categories.

The main aim of this work is to analyse the effect of mental images upon the negative affective-emotional states and comfort of individuals hospitalized in psychiatric institutions. This approach is based on Kolcaba’s conceptual and operational model of comfort, but also considers the arguments for consistency between affect, emotion and cognition in depressive, anxiety and stress disorders. The work describes studies concerning patients’ experiences of psychiatric internment, and the effect of guided imagery on individuals with depressive disorders, in which patients are shown how to do breathing and muscle exercises and generate positive mental images that offer security and freedom. It also reports the results of the process to build and validate instruments to assess depression, anxiety, stress and comfort. A tapescript for a Guided Imagery CD is also provided. The results suggest that individuals in psychiatric institutions feel imprisoned by their disease, and that although hospitalization may be experienced as discomfort, it is nevertheless considered to offer the possibility of release. It also indicates that positive thinking may be effective in reducing levels of anxiety, depression and stress and increasing the comfort of these individual, and that the instruments constructed and validated are of suitable quality to be used to diagnose and assess the results of intervention in individuals with affective-emotional disturbances.

The Member States in the WHO European Region met at the WHO European Ministerial Conference on Mental Health in Helsinki in January 2005 to tackle one of the major threats to the well-being of Europeans: the epidemic of psychosocial distress and mental ill health. These countries took mental health from the shadow of stigma and discrimination and brought it to the centre of the public health policy arena. By adopting the Mental Health Declaration and Action Plan for Europe they set the course for mental health policy for the next 5-10 years. Member States now face the challenge of acting on the principles of the Declaration and accomplishing the goals in the Action Plan's 12 areas of work. This book contributes to the achievement of this task by describing the current situation in the Region presenting the texts of the Declaration and Action Plan offering brief discussions of the areas of work (with examples of initiatives already underway in each) and describing WHO's plans to assist Member States in improving mental health in the European Region.

Empirical Direction In Design And Analysis written by Norman H. Anderson and has been published by Psychology Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001-07-01 with Psychology categories.

The goal of Norman H. Anderson's new book is to help students develop skills of scientific inference. To accomplish this he organized the book around the "Experimental Pyramid"--six levels that represent a hierarchy of considerations in empirical investigation--conceptual framework, phenomena, behavior, measurement, design, and statistical inference. To facilitate conceptual and empirical understanding, Anderson de-emphasizes computational formulas and null hypothesis testing. Other features include: *emphasis on visual inspection as a basic skill in experimental analysis to help students develop an intuitive appreciation of data patterns; *exercises that emphasize development of conceptual and empirical application of methods of design and analysis and de-emphasize formulas and calculations; and *heavier emphasis on confidence intervals than significance tests. The book is intended for use in graduate-level experimental design/research methods or statistics courses in psychology, education, and other applied social sciences, as well as a professional resource for active researchers. The first 12 chapters present the core concepts graduate students must understand. The next nine chapters serve as a reference handbook by focusing on specialized topics with a minimum of technicalities.

How do people cope with stressful experiences? What makes a coping strategy effective for a particular individual? This volume comprehensively examines the nature of psychosocial stress and the implications of different coping strategies for adaptation and health across the lifespan. Carolyn M. Aldwin synthesizes a vast body of knowledge within a conceptual framework that emphasizes the transactions between mind and body and between persons and environments. She analyzes different kinds of stressors and their psychological and physiological effects, both negative and positive. Ways in which coping is influenced by personality, relationships, situational factors, and culture are explored. The book also provides a methodological primer for stress and coping research, critically reviewing available measures and data analysis techniques.
