O discurso humorístico e seus mecanismos de funcionamento têm tido presença constante nas mais distintas instâncias da vida cotidiana. Nas últimas décadas, o chamado "humor politicamente incorreto" ganhou destaque e tem gerado inúmeras discussões e conflitos acerca dos limites do humor, do que poderia ser considerado humorístico ou não e, evidentemente, os conflitos desse tipo de humor com um, por vezes suposto e por vezes factível, policiamento do politicamente correto. Dado esse contexto, buscamos refletir sobre como o humorismo politicamente incorreto é constituído e suas dialéticas possibilidades de produzir sentidos, sobretudo pela sua capacidade de reforçar ou atacar a ordem estabelecida. Destarte, enfatizamos o caráter político de tudo: o humor incluso.

In this great philosophical essay, Henri Bergson explores why people laugh and what laughter means. Written at the turn of the twentieth century, Laughter explores what it is in language that makes a joke funny and what it is in us that makes us laugh. One of the functions of humor, according to Bergson, is to help us retain our humanity during an age of mechanization. Like other philosophers, novelists, poets, and humorists of his era, Bergson was concerned with the duality of man and machine. His belief in life as a vital impulse, indefinable by reason alone, informs his perception of comedy as the relief we experience upon distancing ourselves from the mechanistic and materialistic. "A situation is always comic," Bergson notes, "if it participates simultaneously in two series of events which are absolutely independent of each other, and if it can be interpreted in two quite different meanings." The philosopher's thought-provoking insights (e.g., "It seems that laughter needs an echo. Peace and War by Raymond Aron is one of the greatest books ever written on international relations. Aron's starting point is the state of nature that exists between nations, a condition that differs essentially from the civil state that holds within political communities. Ever keeping this brute fact about the life of nations in mind and ranging widely over political history and many disciplines, Aron develops the essential analytical tools to enable us to think clearly about the stakes and possibilities of international relations. In his first section, “Theory,” Aron shows that, while international relations can be mapped, and probabilities discerned, no closed, global “science” of international relations is anything more than a mirage.
