E assim aprendi a ser professor é composto de relatos de histórias e fatos interessantes ocorridos nos primeiros vinte anos de carreira de um jovem professor, iniciada numa pequena escola situada na Região Central do estado do Paraná. No início da década de 1990, nessa região, havia uma demanda muito grande por professores de todas as disciplinas. Para remediar o problema, o estado contratava jovens que tivessem concluído o segundo grau, os quais escolhiam, aleatoriamente ou pela habilidade que julgavam ter, a matéria que queriam lecionar. Duas décadas depois essa situação de precariedade da falta de profissionais habilitados se modificou, mas as angústias e os desafios continuam em outras questões, como é natural em cada tempo. As narrativas foram escolhidas a partir de acontecimentos didáticos e pedagógicos peculiares que se deram, e ainda continuam a acontecer, no ambiente de sala da aula, dentro dos muros da escola e até mesmo fora do ambiente escolar, por invariavelmente haver alguma influência na vida e nas escolhas dos personagens que o habitam. Neste caso, em especial, de alguém que entrou por acaso num universo tão especial da escola: a docência. À medida que o tempo foi passando, fui descobrindo coisas. Outras me foram reveladas por almas generosas ou não tão generosas assim. O fato é que fui entendendo a cada momento que esse mundo era muito mais complexo e específico do que havia imaginado quando aceitei o desafio de me tornar professor. Enfim, o objetivo é mostrar ao leitor ora com situações surpreendentes, ora comoventes, ora situações circunstanciais, ora cômicas, os acertos, os erros, os medos, os pecados, as obediências pueris e outras tantas situações encontradas em cada turma, cada aluno, cada colega de trabalho que ajudaram na pavimentação da trilha desta história, cujo olhar é de um indivíduo comum que se permitiu, sem ressalvas, embrenhar-se no mundo mágico da educação.
