In Sodoms ThresholdThe Desire for the Unthinkable, author Dr. Isaac B. Rosler deconstructs the narrative of Sodom and highlights how religion borrows its fervor and passion from a nonreligious impetus that is not only other than religion but also other than God. He invites us to trespassto think about what has already trespassed our senses and to make sense of an overabundant excess that remains unsacrificable even through ruins, ashes, and forgetfulness. Sodoms Threshold explores concepts of alterity and otherness, and it calls us to think about a space of passion that keeps returning in spite of interruptionsin spite of religious, family, or state mandates that command us not to touch an alterity that has already arrived and is in excess of every touch. The Sodomites forbidden passion is an excess that impassionsit is a surplus that will be usurped and neutralized ad infi nitum by the multiple religions that both rise against its mystery and yet are also founded by it. Though Sodom was erased, its alterity and its surplus are indestructible.

An essay is an exercise in communicating the essence of argumentationat best a presentation of whatever seems worth consideration either today or might be tomorrow. Occasions set down in words are arbitrary, precarious, at best haphazard. They are brought forward by impulses from the world outside and beyond the personal, caught in flight by the circumstances and vicissitudes of a life. Between the person described in the first of these varied prosings and the last offeredbetween the "what" I thought I was and the "who" I may have beenseventy-five years have passed. Whether deserving of another person's attention is not a judgment for this writer to make. Michel de Montaigne offers no better justification or excuse than to say he was concerned to study himself. His genius was not only fine but bold. What he wrote of himself in his world and what he took from great ancient writers is superlative in its objective, modest egoism and wisdom. As a casual essayist, I expect not the least comparison with that admirable and freest of men. All I can hope for is that whatever my reader may find worth the time passed with this volume offers as much diversion and entertainment as perhaps did my verse, fiction, and drama published during those same past years.

Essential, accessible guidelines for interpreting and using financial information "A wonderful resource for nonprofit managers and board members alike. It hits the mark by simplifying accounting concepts and providing practical advice that can help nonprofits achieve a higher degree of accountability." -Paula Van Ness, President and CEO, Make-A-Wish Foundation of America "After thirty-three years of managing in the nonprofit sector, I find I could have used the information in Streetsmart when I first began my career. The book is a must-read for anyone interested in the effective management of nonprofit organizations." -George W. Kessinger, President and CEO, Goodwill Industries International, Inc. "The first edition of McLaughlin's book was a masterpiece-clearly written, concise, and insightful. These traits also characterize the Second Edition. This is an excellent text for students and also a reference that every nonprofit professional should have on their bookshelf." -Norman A. Dolch, PhD, Director of the Nonprofit Programs and Professor of Sociology Louisiana State University in Shreveport "Tom McLaughlin contributes a valuable tool to those working for the betterment of society in the nonprofit fields: an important, highly readable, intelligent review of those issues which determine success and failure. All too often, well-meaning nonprofit managers find their organizations in constant crisis due to their mission-focus and mission-drive to the detriment of sound financial management. Not That You Asked written by Mark Randall and has been published by iUniverse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001-05-29 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

Collected writings on booze, smoking, society, education, art and various other things on the decline, by the irreverent, provocative and occasionally witty Philadelphia columnist. Excerpts from Mark Randall's Not That You Asked: On smoking: "…it is a shame we are content with this tedious non-debate about which is better, virtue or vice, instead of the really more interesting topic, namely, the relative virtues to be found among the available vices." On identity politics: "…proponents of identity politics are not really offended by racial inferences…they would only prefer that all of the inferences be complimentary." On city living: "Look upon your stolen wreaths as a kind of donation to the poor and you see that what you lose in Hope, you gain in Charity…In fact, since Charity is regarded as the greatest of virtues, you may flatter yourself to be exchanging your Hope at a profit." On religion: "…anti-Papism is one of those activities that's probably best left to Catholics." On the French: "…I have always tried to defend the French against the usual criticisms…but it is difficult work, hampered right at the outset by the fact that most of the usual criticisms are true." On his own problems: "But how do I reconcile a life that fades out with me typing alone in the basement instead of on a terrace in Majorca, on the phone to a producer, occasionally waving down to Francesca who is sunning herself nude on the pier?"

100 Animated Feature Films written by Andrew Osmond and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-07-14 with Performing Arts categories.

20 years ago, animated features were widely perceived as cartoons for children. Today, though, they encompass an astonishing range of films, styles and techniques. There is the powerful adult drama of Waltz with Bashir; the Gallic sophistication of Belleville Rendez-Vous; the eye-popping violence of Japan's Akira; and the stop-motion whimsy of Wallace & Gromit in The Curse of the Were-Rabbit. Andrew Osmond provides an entertaining and illuminating guide to the endlessly diverse world of animated features, with entries on 100 of the most interesting and important animated films from around the world, from the 1920s to the present day. Blending in-depth history and criticism, 100 Animated Feature Films balances the blockbusters with local success stories from Eastern Europe to Hong Kong. This revised and updated new edition addresses films that have been released since publication of the first edition, such as the mainstream hits Frozen, The Lego Movie and Spider-Man: Into the Spider Verse, as well as updated entries on franchises such as the Toy Story movies. It also covers bittersweet indy visions such as Don Hertzfeldt's It's Such a Beautiful Day, Charlie Kaufman's Anomalisa, Isao Takahata's Tale of the Princess Kaguya, the family saga The Wolf Children and the popular blockbuster Your Name. Osmond's wide-ranging selection also takes in the Irish fantasy Song of the Sea, France's I Lost My Body and Spain's Chico & Rita. Osmond's authoritative and entertaining entries combine with a contextualising introduction and key filmographic information to provide an essential guide to animated film.
