Apenas regresaba el presidente de su jornada de trabajo, cuando el periódico de la derecha mexicana calificaba el viaje como un fracaso. Fue uno de los pocos periódicos en México en ignorar que López Obrador había regresado con acuerdos de inversión por 4 mil millones de dólares que llegarían a México en el último tercio de su sexenio, lo que al precio de cambio del momento era cercano al billón, un millón de millones de pesos mexicanos. Nunca en ningún país en ningún momento de la historia, una sociedad esclavizada y feudal, amanece al otro día despierta, igualitaria, solidaria y progresista. Los grandes cambios para el mal han sido logrados por Hitler, Stalin o Herodes, los grandes cambios para el bien podría provocarlos Marx, pero ya pasaron 100 años y nadie ha aprendido a leerlo, ni siquiera acabamos de comprender cual es la diferencia entre el Valor de Uso y el Valor de Cambio, cuando el 51 por ciento de la sociedad lo entienda empezamos a transformar, pero hoy se necesita de un líder. Construir a López Obrador llevó por lo menos 22 años. Insisto, es lo que hay y su potencial no da solo para transformar a México, sino la economía mundial.

Los migrantes Centroamericanos buscan ir a Estados Unidos porque se encuentran en peligro debido a la amenaza de las bandas criminales o por hambruna. No es el caso de la mayoría de los mexicanos porque con López Obrador quienes viajan son los jóvenes que no quieren o no tienen capacidad para estudiar, ya que hay becas disponibles para todos los estudiantes, los habitantes de personas que viven en poblaciones rurales, que tienen muchos hijos y envidian a los vecinos que gastan fortunas en fiestas de XV años. López Obrador ha garantizado un piso mínimo de bienestar, para que quienes decidan viajar al extranjero lo hagan por gusto y no por una necesidad extrema. Sin embargo hay notables excepciones cuando hablamos de Fresnillo, Zacatecas y otras poblaciones donde no existe el Estado Mexicano, solo, dice una expresión popular, truenan los chicharrones del crimen organizado.

France achieved national unity much later than is commonly supposed. For a hundred years and more after the Revolution, millions of peasants lived on as if in a timeless world, their existence little different from that of the generations before them. The author of this lively, often witty, and always provocative work traces how France underwent a veritable crisis of civilization in the early years of the French Republic as traditional attitudes and practices crumbled under the forces of modernization. Local roads and railways were the decisive factors, bringing hitherto remote and inaccessible regions into easy contact with markets and major centers of the modern world. The products of industry rendered many peasant skills useless, and the expanding school system taught not only the language of the dominant culture but its values as well, among them patriotism. By 1914, France had finally become La Patrie in fact as it had so long been in name.

This pioneering work, now available for the first time in English, seeks to analyze the political process in Argentina, a nation that has long aspired to political leadership of Latin America but has failed to fulfill its aspiration because of political fragmentation and factionalism. In determining who holds power in Argentina, Professor Imaz assembled information on the social backgrounds of political leaders and party workers, military officers, large landowners, managers and owners of industry and commerce, the hierarchy of the Roman Catholic Church, and officials of labor unions. This considerable amount of data for the years 1936–1961 provides the basis for a comparison of the processes of recruitment and the different social outlooks of the various elites. Professor Imaz's frequently cited book has gone through six printings in Argentina since first publication in 1964. For the English translation, he has added material that brings the data up to date. International trade and investment have been buffeted over the past three years by US-China trade war tariffs, high-technology export controls, and other economic sanctions targeting Chinese policies. The COVID-19 pandemic has further disrupted production and created bottlenecks transporting goods within and between countries. International businesses have had to recalibrate their supply chains to make them more resilient to these and other shocks. Firms needing to diversify from China are now considering whether to reorganize production across Asia to complement continuing Chinese operations or to shift investment out of Asia to shorten supply chains serving the US market. The most promising candidate for large-scale nearshoring is Mexico, but so far at least, Mexico has not lured substantial new investments that could supplant Asian production serving the US market. In a collaborative effort to explore the feasibility and benefits of relocating production to Mexico, the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and the Peterson Institute for International Economics (PIIE) organized a group of leading scholars and former officials to offer their individual perspectives in this collection of short essays.
