A quantitative evaluation methodology to study the cost sensitivities and engineering uncertainties of advanced energy conversion systems. Results of the application of the methodology to evaluate the ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) technology are reported. Capital cost and bus-bar cost of electricity are estimated for optimal complete systems. Sensitivities of these cost estimates to perturbations in various significant design parameters are derived.
