„În 2016, în jurul Mării Negre am văzut aproape peste tot militari, iar în spatele atmosferei relaxate, pe care o întâlneşti în general în porturi, am simţit precipitare şi nelinişte, de parcă zilele bune se apropie de sfârşit, dacă nu cumva s-au terminat deja. Această mare capricioasă, aflată între lumi, parcă mereu nervoasă şi greu de stăpânit, este un loc al nesfârşitelor dispute, al nemulţumirilor ascunse şi al strategiilor războinice. Perioadele de aparentă linişte n-au fost lipsite de bătălii, iar peisajul întregii regiuni a suferit permanent fragmentări, comasări, rupturi, dislocări, anexări. Țările din jurul Mării Negre n-au fost niciodată prietene, poate şi fiindcă oamenii nu sunt interesaţi să se cunoască între ei, nu sunt curioşi să știe nici cum trăiesc vecinii şi nici ce-ar putea cumpăra de la ei. Mirarea şi dorinţa de cunoaştere a grecilor antici, care au înfiinţat fiecare port cu tradiţie de la Pontul Euxin, au fost înlocuite la început de lăcomie şi apoi de orgoliul dominaţiei întregii mări. Sferele de influenţă abandonate şi reconstruite după 2014, când pentru prima dată în Europa postbelică un stat a luat cu japca un teritoriu vecin, au transformat iarăşi Marea Neagră într-un loc al confruntărilor. Aici, totul se întâmplă încet-încet, iavaş-iavaş, ciut-ciut, în aşteptarea «celui de-al nouălea val», care ar putea fi devastator.“ (Sabina FATI) „Fac parte din categoria «conservatorilor» care mai cred încă în diferenţa dintre sexe. Aşa încât, în 2015, am spus despre Sabina Fati că, pentru călătoria de 15 000 de kilometri pe care a făcut-o singură, vreme de 80 de zile, pe Drumul Mătăsii, ar fi meritat premiul «femeia anului». Şi totuşi nu despre o simplă performanţă cu iz de eroism este vorba în cazul Sabinei Fati. Dacă şi-a pus viaţa în joc, cum, iată, după doi ani, o face din nou, să nu uităm că isprava ei se soldează cu un câştig enorm pentru noi toţi: din călătoria în jurul Mării Negre prin Ucraina, Rusia, Crimeea, Abhazia, Georgia, Turcia, Bulgaria şi România a rezultat o carte care ne ajută să ne limpezim istoria, geopolitica şi cultura lumii în care suntem aşezaţi.
