Of Earth, For Earth is a 116-page full-colour, hardcover book, consisting of dialogue between artists, community representatives, industrialists and educators. It also contains images from the exhibition of the same name, and many other artists have contributed to it with images and texts. It aims to inspire debate about human interactions with the Earth, while our consumption of resources grows ever larger and the environments on which we depend face an uncertain future. This book speaks to our sense of belonging to place, time, natural and cultural heritage. It describes the geologically grounded and contested places in which mining inspires our relationship with Earth and interrogates our commitment to change. Through dialogue and debate, perhaps we may unearth mechanisms to carve out a more sustainable relationship with the Earth while maintaining access to the resources that will support the global population. Contributing artists Dan Pyne, Carlos Petter, Alan Smith, Louise K. Wilson, Dylan McFarlane, Adele Rouleau, Josie Purcell, Jack Hirons, Dominic Roberts, Olga Sidorenko, Penda Diallo, Frances Wall, Henrietta Simson, Dominika Glogowski, James Hankey, Kieran Ryan, Alison Cooke, Karin Easton, Chris Easton, Nic Barcza, Nic Clift, Djibo Seydou, Naomi Binta Stansly, Richard Martin, Oliver Raymond-Barker, Caitlin DeSilvey, Gill Juleff, Heidi Flaxman, Anshul Paneri, Cassia Johnson, Heather Wilson, Allie Mitchell, Joel Gill, Nic Bilham, Father Nicholas Barla, Julian Allwood, Art & Energy, Kathryn Sturman, Lucy Crane, Gareth Thomas, Vitor Correia, Luis Lopes, Stephen Henley.

Paradise Regained written by Greg Matloff and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-07-17 with Technology & Engineering categories.

What was our planet like before the advent of our modern civilization? What effects has our civilization had on the planet and its ecological systems? Paradise Regained discusses these questions and then creates a scenario for the re-greening of Earth. The authors introduce new and innovative ideas on how humankind might use the resources of the solar system for terrestrial benefit. Earth would then become a place for a technologically advanced human civilization to live in synchronization, if not in harmony, with the environment which gave us birth. Since the formation of our solar system, the resources and ecological state of Earth have undergone many changes. The environmental challenges facing humanity today, as the authors posit them, will not be resolved simply by conservation and Earth-based alternative technologies. Paradise Regained considers the environmental dilemma and highlights the risk of humankind's future extinction from environmental degradation. Human population growth, climate change, and the strained sustainability of the few remaining habitats for wild life are all discussed. The authors, however, are not discouraged and offer a potential solution through the development of space. Not only will extraterrestrial resources help avert environmental disaster, but will also provide the basis for continued technological and societal progress. The resources of the solar system will help meet our projected industrial needs and feed our industry once terrestrial sources are depleted. Space-based power generation systems will work synergistically with Earth-based conservation. Paradise Regained concludes with the discussion on how closed ecological systems in space will help us to build a prosperous and sustainable future for all humanity.

Harvard’s acclaimed geologist “charts Earth’s history in accessible style” (AP) “A sublime chronicle of our planet." –Booklist, STARRED review How well do you know the ground beneath your feet? Odds are, where you’re standing was once cooking under a roiling sea of lava, crushed by a towering sheet of ice, rocked by a nearby meteor strike, or perhaps choked by poison gases, drowned beneath ocean, perched atop a mountain range, or roamed by fearsome monsters. Probably most or even all of the above. The story of our home planet and the organisms spread across its surface is far more spectacular than any Hollywood blockbuster, filled with enough plot twists to rival a bestselling thriller. But only recently have we begun to piece together the whole mystery into a coherent narrative. Drawing on his decades of field research and up-to-the-minute understanding of the latest science, renowned geologist Andrew H. Knoll delivers a rigorous yet accessible biography of Earth, charting our home planet's epic 4.6 billion-year story. Placing twenty first-century climate change in deep context, A Brief History of Earth is an indispensable look at where we’ve been and where we’re going. Features original illustrations depicting Earth history and nearly 50 figures (maps, tables, photographs, graphs).

Humans are responsible for the degradation of planet Earth. Humans have the responsibility to manage Earth's resources to benefit all, with consideration for the Earth's land, waters and atmosphere. Scientific data and visual photos from researchers and satellites show humans have been failing to manage Earth with "Care". Humans have the collective responsibility to work and reverse the current state of deforestation, carbon and toxic gases pollution of Earth's atmosphere which are contributing to the increase warming of Earth, and the contamination of Earth's waters with toxic chemicals, pesticides, plastic materials and trash. Years of monitoring his immediate and global environment, and observing human behavior in their environments, it was and is clear to Emmanuel Ehirim that the lack of information and/or knowledge in environmental matters for a significant number of humans have resulted in the poor management of Earth's land, waters and atmosphere. However, this is not true for big businesses which produce and sell most of the toxic materials and machines responsible for pollution and contamination of Earth's land, waters and atmosphere. They have the information and scientific data but ignore them. This book illustrates the "Cry of Earth" for urgent intervention by all human to collectively work together and reverse Earth's degradation and start to "Handle Earth with Care".

Hailed by The New York Times for writing “with wonderful clarity about science . . . that effortlessly teaches as it zips along,” nationally bestselling author Robert M. Hazen offers a radical new approach to Earth history in this intertwined tale of the planet’s living and nonliving spheres. With an astrobiologist’s imagination, a historian’s perspective, and a naturalist’s eye, Hazen calls upon twenty-first-century discoveries that have revolutionized geology and enabled scientists to envision Earth’s many iterations in vivid detail—from the mile-high lava tides of its infancy to the early organisms responsible for more than two-thirds of the mineral varieties beneath our feet. Lucid, controversial, and on the cutting edge of its field, The Story of Earth is popular science of the highest order. "A sweeping rip-roaring yarn of immense scope, from the birth of the elements in the stars to meditations on the future habitability of our world." -Science "A fascinating story." -Bill McKibben
