This work is a complete grammar of an Old Spanish text of the 13th century. It includes a critical edition of an important part of a medieval chronicle on which the study is based. The grammar consists of three parts: (1) phonology, reconstructed from graphemic references, (2) description and classification of morphosyntactic structures, and (3) analysis of stylistic devices. In addition, it contains a chronological identification of the language and its interrelation with languages of the Mediterranean area and other Hispano-Romance dialects. A glossary shows the origin, medieval usage and Modern Spanish equivalent of the words of the text with references to their use in other Old Spanish literary works and to their counterparts in the Old French version of the chronicle. An exhaustive bibliography concludes the book.

Czech and Slovak immigrants, including Bohemian Jews, have brought to the New World their talents, their ingenuity, their technical skills, their scientific knowhow, and their humanistic and spiritual upbringing, reflecting upon the richness of their culture and traditions, developed throughout centuries in their ancestral home. This is a text and translation with introduction, notes, and index, of the Epistola ad Mahomatem II (Epistle to Mohammed II) of Aeneas Silvius Piccolomini (Pope Pius II, 1458-1464). Written ca. 1460, the goal of the epistle is twofold: to persuade Mohammed II, who had conquered Constantinople in 1453, not to press his attack on the West and to persuade him of the benefits of converting to Christianity. The epistle is an eloquent presentation of humanistic values and an interesting document of contemporary, occidental attitudes towards Islam and the Moslem religion.
