Taurat yang adalah kumpulan kitab dari Kejadian sampai Ulangan, pantas untuk dihormati sekaligus dipelajari demi perkembangan rasa spiritual, baik dalam tradisi Yahudi maupun Kristiani. Ada banyak hal yang dapat dipelajari dari Taurat. Namun, tidak mudah mempelajari Taurat, khususnya bagi orang Kristiani (Indonesia). Taurat muncul dengan latar belakang kultur Timur Tengah Kuno. Perbedaan kultur tersebut menciptakan kesulitan tersendiri untuk memahami pola pikir dan sejumlah gagasan teologis dalam Taurat. Namun demikian, tema Taurat tak pernah akan usang dan selalu relevan untuk menjadi bahan kajian studi. Untuk itu, Lembaga Biblika Indonesia (LBI) menyusun naskah yang berisi kumpulan esai tentang Taurat. Sebagian besar esai pernah dimuat dalam majalah Wacana Biblika, majalah yang secara periodik diterbitkan oleh LBI. Para penulis pun terdiri atas para dosen KS STFT (Katolik dan Kristen) dan Univ. Katolik di Indonesia.
