Due to the complexity and interconnectivity of many biological processes, an integrative systems biology approach is required to better understand them. The integration of various omics data (including genomics, proteomics, transcriptomics, and metabolomics data) will provide a holistic view that highlights the relationship among the various biomolecules and their functions in plant growth, resistance, quality, and many other important traits. Recent advances in analytical power and in the ability to process large data sets has enabled researchers to integrate multi-omics data and have a much deeper knowledge of the cell, tissue, organ, or even an entire organism being studied. The goal of this Research Topic is not only to publish high-quality and reliable omics data but also to answer the bigger question of how to integrate and correlate different data sets from multiple omics studies. Can one omics data set be used as a primary data set for the design and execution of another omics study? If so, then how it can be done? What are its pre-requisites? How can we plan research involving multi-omics approach to reach a meaningful conclusion? These are the questions that need our attention and their answers are critical for the future of omics-based research. For this Research Topic, we welcome contributors to submit manuscripts related to the following themes: • Studies on plant-based genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics; • Development of new analytical methods for omics utilizing in plants; • Advancements in the current analytical methods for utilizing omics in plants; • Integration of multi-omics data sets; • Development of new statistical methods for data analysis.

Technologies collectively called omics enable simultaneous measurement of an enormous number of biomolecules; for example, genomics investigates thousands of DNA sequences, and proteomics examines large numbers of proteins. Scientists are using these technologies to develop innovative tests to detect disease and to predict a patient's likelihood of responding to specific drugs. Following a recent case involving premature use of omics-based tests in cancer clinical trials at Duke University, the NCI requested that the IOM establish a committee to recommend ways to strengthen omics-based test development and evaluation. This report identifies best practices to enhance development, evaluation, and translation of omics-based tests while simultaneously reinforcing steps to ensure that these tests are appropriately assessed for scientific validity before they are used to guide patient treatment in clinical trials.

Omics And System Biology Approaches For Delivering Better Cereals written by Dinesh Kumar Saini and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-11-08 with Technology & Engineering categories.
Cereals like wheat, rice, maize, and barley have long been the dominant crops in agriculture, providing a significant portion of our food supply. Plant breeders and geneticists have always been interested in improving the yield and quality of cereals. The primary challenges in cereal breeding lie in adapting to climate change and enhancing yield and stress tolerance. In recent years, omics approaches such as genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics have emerged as valuable tools to understand the genetic and molecular basis of cereal development under optimum and stress conditions. However, studying individual datasets for different cereals has limited our comprehensive understanding of complex traits and biological networks. To overcome this limitation, a systems biology approach is necessary. Systems biology integrates multiple omics data, modeling, and cell activity prediction to gain a holistic understanding of biological processes. By considering the whole system and its interactions, rather than isolated components, researchers can develop predictive models and even re-engineer cells. In the context of cereal improvement, systems biology can play a crucial role in identifying and introducing desirable traits such as yield, quality, and stress tolerance. It may help researchers uncover the molecular underpinnings of complex traits and offer insights for enhancing cereals on a national and international scale. The book explores available omics resources, the integration of multi-omics data, and systems biology methods, focusing on their applications in cereals breeding and research. It highlights current and innovative strategies to understand complex traits, improve yield, and enhance resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses. It also addresses the challenges and opportunities associated with modeling multi-omics data and analyzing systems-level information. By leveraging systems biology and integrated omics research, this book aims to redefine the future research agenda for cereal improvement.

The book provides an overview of water stress in plants and alterations in the physiology, morphology, anatomy, and molecular mechanism due to water stress. The induction of water stress hormones and the up-regulating genes synthesizing them is also the major thrust of the book. It also deals with the water and nutrient uptake, alteration in water relations, transpiration and stomatal conductance, and hence in the amount of photosynthesis vis-à-vis water stress. It compiles recent studies on redox regulation, antioxidative systems, nitrogen metabolism and phytohormonal regulation in crop plants during water stress. Different strategies to manage water stress, viz. by using different osmolytes, proteins, hormones and growth regulators, antioxidants, plant extracts, nitric oxide donors, macro and micro mineral nutrients, and the use of silicon have been discussed. The viability of different biotechnological tools to make crop plants less water-demanding, the use of vetiver grass and the insertion of mycorrhiza in water-stressed crop plants have been explored. An exhaustive review of recent literature encompassing genomic, proteomic, transcriptomic, ionomics, and metabolomics approaches to have a better understanding of water stress is the prominent feature of the present book. It discusses major signaling molecules involved in water-stressed environments as well as the crosstalk with other minerals, phytohormones etc. Not least, the book endeavors to illustrate different water conservation methods to achieve sustainable agriculture. The book is a comprehensive compilation of work to date on water stress and its management techniques and this will bridge the missing gap between the research from the past to the current time.
