Liberty is not, as the German precursors of Nazism asserted, a negative ideal. Whether a concept is presented in an affirmative or in a negative form is merely a question of idiom. Freedom from want is tantamount to the expression striving after a state of affairs under which people are better supplied with necessities. Freedom of speech is tantamount to a state of affairs under which everybody can say what he wants to say. At the bottom of all totalitarian doctrines lies the belief that the rulers are wiser and loftier than their subjects and that they therefore know better what benefits those ruled than they themselves. Werner Sombart, for many years a fanatical champion of Marxism and later a no less fanatical advocate of Nazism, was bold enough to assert frankly that the Führer gets his orders from God, the supreme Führer of the universe, and that Führertum is a permanent revelation.* Whoever admits this, must, of course, stop questioning the expediency of government omnipotence. Those disagreeing with this theocratical justification of dictatorship claim for themselves the right to discuss freely the problems involved. They do not write state with a capital S. They do not shrink from analyzing the metaphysical notions of Hegelianism and Marxism. They reduce all this high-sounding oratory to the simple question: are the means suggested suitable to attain the ends sought? In answering this question, they hope to render a service to the great majority of their fellow men.

Advance praise for the writing in this book: "Thomas Eddlem is a fastidious researcher and gifted journalist." - William Norman GriggThomas R. Eddlem combines original research with his journalism background to produce essays and research cited by national radio talk shows such as the Michael Savage show and national publications such as Investor's Business Daily. Published in more than 25 different periodicals, this book is the compilation of his best essays, 56 essays and 10 short poems in 512 pages in all, and includes many bon mots such as: "When a politician says the Constitution is a 'living document, ' he invariably means it should be a 'dead letter.'""Politicians just declare a 'war' when they want to appear to be serious about solving a problem without actually doing anything about it.""The redefinition of words is where the dumbing down of our society really begins, and where the most powerful kind of lies are told to the American people." "The practicality of libertarianism is rooted in the belief that government is dumb. Government is incompetent to solve most of our cultural ailments.""Even an imbecile can figure out a gun. Trump seems to think that a gun is some kind of magic thunder stick too complicated for four-fifths of the nation's college-educated teachers to figure out without some mysterious and intensive training, either 'military or special, ' by gnostics from within the rectum of government."If you want to be challenged in your views on politics and economics from an unbending journalist and researcher who doesn't fit any tidy left-right ideological mold, this is the book for you.

The Idea Of World Government written by James A. Yunker and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-02-01 with Political Science categories.

The notion of a single political organization encompassing the whole of humanity—a world state—has intrigued mankind since earliest recorded history. This book provides a concise yet comprehensive overview of the history of world government, and questions whether political globalization, in the form of a federal world government, could and should complement the ongoing processes of economic and cultural globalization. While the potential peacekeeping advantage of such a state is obvious, the consensus judgment has always been against it, because it could lead to totalitarian tyranny. Yunker examines whether this judgment is still correct, considering that nuclear weapons of unimaginable destructiveness now exist, capable of destroying human civilization as we know it. Summarizing the lessons of history, the author suggests that while the conventional world federalist concept of an unlimited world government is still impractical in today’s world, there may be a role for a limited federal world government that would go well beyond the existing United Nations, thereby providing a stronger institutional basis for the evolutionary development of genuinely effective global governance. This book is an important resource for all students and scholars of global governance, international relations and international organizations.
