Can a single evening be perfect? It can if you ask a couple in love. The short story "On a Spring Evening" by Guy de Maupassant, who is widely considered the master of French Naturalism, is a picturesque tale of love set in the 19th century. Cousins Jeanne and Jacques are set to be married, much to the glee of their parents. As they take a stroll on a spring evening, their emotions seem to get the best of them. The story paints a vivid picture of a scenic night and how far a single act of kindness can go. Guy de Maupassant (1850-1893) was a prolific French writer considered a pioneer in modern short story writing. Maupassant was a protégé of French writer Gustave Flaubert and is known for novels such as A Woman's Life and short stories including "The Horla" and "The Dumpling." Maupassant's stories fall into the Naturalist movement, often depicting social entanglements and complex human fates. They have inspired countless film adaptations including the French-Belgian drama called A Woman's Life (2016).

Evening In Spring written by August Derleth and has been published by Independently Published this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-12-11 with categories.

August Derleth regarded Evening in Spring (1941) as perhaps the best novel he ever wrote. The product of many years' work, the novel began as a novella written as early as 1929, under the title "The Early Years." Derleth wrote successive drafts of this text, showing some of them to his friend H. P. Lovecraft, who commented incisively upon them. Then, around 1940, he wrote the novel as we have it in a few months. This is a poignant tale of young love: Steve Grendon (an obvious stand-in for Derleth himself) becomes infatuated with Margery Estabrook, but both sets of parents object, both because of the couple's youth and also because Steve is Catholic and Margery is Protestant. Will the couple overcome these obstacles, or will they prove too much for these teenagers? Set in the rural Wisconsin landscape that the author paints with as tenderness and affection as he depicts the complex emotions of his protagaonists, Evening in Spring is a testament to the sensitivity of character portrayal that typifies August Derleth's best work.

From #1 bestselling author Isla Dean comes the third novella in the One Night Collection, ONE SPRING NIGHT. Mystery writer, Kara Keaton, moved to small town Stonebridge to start her life over after her husband’s death. Between writing, renovating the hundred-year-old home she purchased, and trying to figure out how to keep the plants in her greenhouse alive, she stays busy. But not so busy that she doesn’t enjoy her daily visits to the Plumber’s Pub where the cheer of the town rings long and loud. And it certainly isn't a hardship to watch the stoic and sexy Ben Roberts behind the bar. The steadiest of the siblings, Ben's love and pride in being part of his family's pub is palpable. He's a straight-shooter--when it's important--with a strong stature and golden eyes that show darker hints of what runs deep within him. And from the day he meets the mysterious Kara, he’s a man who knows what he wants. He just hasn't found a way into her world. Yet. With a spring storm barreling through the quaint New England town, Kara begins to let down her guard, and starts to understand that her heart truly is ready to love again. SPECIAL NOTE TO READERS: Each book in the One Night Collection is a standalone novella, featuring new characters with a story all their own, that takes place over the course of one night. The exception to this is One Summer Night (coming summer 2016!) which features a fun roundup of all the main characters in the collection as they come together for a fabulous Fourth of July celebration. Tonic To The Nation Making English Music In The Festival Of Britain written by Nathaniel G. Lew and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-07-01 with Music categories.

Long remembered chiefly for its modernist exhibitions on the South Bank in London, the 1951 Festival of Britain also showcased British artistic creativity in all its forms. In Tonic to the Nation, Nathaniel G. Lew tells the story of the English classical music and opera composed and revived for the Festival, and explores how these long-overlooked components of the Festival helped define English music in the post-war period. Drawing on a wealth of archival material, Lew looks closely at the work of the newly chartered Arts Council of Great Britain, for whom the Festival of Britain provided the first chance to assert its authority over British culture. The Arts Council devised many musical programs for the Festival, including commissions of new concert works, a vast London Season of almost 200 concerts highlighting seven centuries of English musical creativity, and several schemes to commission and perform new operas. These projects were not merely directed at bringing audiences to hear new and old national music, but to share broader goals of framing the national repertory, negotiating between the conflicting demands of conservative and progressive tastes, and using music to forge new national definitions in a changed post-war world.
