Our lives are saturated by color. We live in a world of vivid colors, and color marks our psychological and social existence. But for all color’s inescapability, we don’t know much about it. Now authors David Scott Kastan and Stephen Farthing offer a fresh and imaginative exploration of one of the most intriguing and least understood aspects of everyday experience. Kastan and Farthing, a scholar and a painter, respectively, investigate color from numerous perspectives: literary, historical, cultural, anthropological, philosophical, art historical, political, and scientific. In ten lively and wide-ranging chapters, each devoted to a different color, they examine the various ways colors have shaped and continue to shape our social and moral imaginations. Each individual color becomes the focal point for a consideration of one of the extraordinary ways in which color appears and matters in our lives. Beautifully produced in full color, this book is a remarkably smart, entertaining, and fascinating guide to this elusive topic.

Subtle and allusive, bold and invigorating, colour is one of the single most powerful elements in design and decoration. Even its absence makes its presence felt. The choice of colours on offer to the home decorator is dazzling and potentially baffling - from coloured saucepans and kitchen appliances to paint and tiles - and colour, like never before, is affordable and accessible. Yet handling colour effectively does take both confidence and a degree of expertise. In Conran on Colour Terence Conran shares a lifetime of experience as one of the world's leading designers, retailers and restaurateurs to explain how to make the most of this vibrant and dynamic ingredient. With reference to a wide range of sources, from nature and fashion to street markets and works of art, he reveals how to translate such examples into practical strategies for bringing colour into your home. Packed with fascinating detail, sound advice and a wealth of inspiration, the book is illustrated with engaging contemporary interiors from around the world - homes that display a fresh blend of thoughtful design and individual character. As such examples reveal, using colour successfully is as much about well-judged accents and focal points as it is in the choice of wall colour or floor covering.

Michael Freeman On Color Tone written by Michael Freeman and has been published by Hachette UK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-05-25 with Photography categories.

Color isn't 'just there' in photography, an ordinary fact of life. It's much more special and can be a subject and pursuit in its own right, because it triggers an emotional and aesthetic response like no other. Color is processed not in the eye, but in the mind, and that makes it personal. In this third book in the series, Michael Freeman talks about color in photography in a completely fresh, thoughtful and useful way, unlike any other book on the market. In recent years, photography-about-color has exploded as a shooting phenomenon, taking inspiration not just from the great colorist photographers like Outerbridge, Haas, Gruyaert, Leiter, Eggleston and Porter, but from the new freedom that modern sensors and processing software give. This book both celebrates and advises this new trend, drawing on Freeman's long experience editorially and professionally, spanning the two eras of film and digital color.

Reflection On Color written by Carlos Cruz Diez and has been published by Yale University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-02-28 with Art categories.

The seminal writing of Carlos Cruz-Diez, best known for his experiential works exploring color and its properties Trained as a painter, Carlos Cruz-Diez (1923-2019) developed a conceptual platform for his work based on optical and chromatic phenomena, which led him to take a revolutionary new approach to his work beginning in 1959. Building on the chromatic experiments of figures like Sir Isaac Newton, the impressionists, and Josef Albers, Cruz-Diez explored the perception of color as an autonomous reality evolving in space and time, unaided by form or support, in a perpetual present. Originally published in Spanish in 1989, Reflection on Color details Cruz-Diez's theories of color and traces the aesthetic and conceptual evolution of his practice. Though the book was translated into English in Cruz-Diez's lifetime, it never saw broad distribution. In this text, Cruz-Diez explores eight of his major investigations into color phenomena, including his signature Physichromie and Chromosaturation series. Generously illustrated with examples of Cruz-Diez's work, this important text introduces Cruz-Diez's writing and thinking to a new generation of artists and scholars. Distributed for the Cruz-Diez Foundation
