Fellow Russian mathematicians discuss and extend the works of Dobrushin (1929-95,), who worked in many areas of mathematics, but had deepest influence on mathematical physics and was one of the founders of the rigorous study of statistical physics. The 15 technical papers are flanked by a short biography and recollections by colleagues and students. The topics include the lower spectral branch of the generator of the stochastic dynamics for the classical Heisenberg model, non-symmetric simple random walks along orbits of ergodic automorphisms, the Cramer transform and large deviations on three- dimensional Lobachevsky space, and dynamics of Ising-spin systems at zero temperature. The book you hold in your hands is the outcome of the "ISCS 2013: Interdisciplinary Symposium on Complex Systems" held at the historical capital of Bohemia as a continuation of our series of symposia in the science of complex systems. Prague, one of the most beautiful European cities, has its own beautiful genius loci. Here, a great number of important discoveries were made and many important scientists spent fruitful and creative years to leave unforgettable traces. The perhaps most significant period was the time of Rudolf II who was a great supporter of the art and the science and attracted a great number of prominent minds to Prague. This trend would continue. Tycho Brahe, Niels Henrik Abel, Johannes Kepler, Bernard Bolzano, August Cauchy Christian Doppler, Ernst Mach, Albert Einstein and many others followed developing fundamental mathematical and physical theories or expanding them. Thus in the beginning of the 17th century, Kepler formulated here the first two of his three laws of planetary motion on the basis of Tycho Brahe’s observations. In the 19th century, nowhere differentiable continuous functions (of a fractal character) were constructed here by Bolzano along with a treatise on infinite sets, titled “Paradoxes of Infinity” (1851). Weierstrass would later publish a similar function in 1872. In 1842, Doppler as a professor of mathematics at the Technical University of Prague here first lectured about a physical effect to bear his name later. And the epoch-making physicist Albert Einstein – while being a chaired professor of theoretical physics at the German University of Prague – arrived at the decisive steps of his later finished theory of general relativity during the years 1911–1912. In Prague, also many famous philosophers and writers accomplished their works; for instance, playwright arel ape coined the word "robot" in Prague (“robot” comes from the Czech word “robota” which means “forced labor”).

The 2017 PIMS-CRM Summer School in Probability was held at the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences (PIMS) at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, during June 5-30, 2017. It had 125 participants from 20 different countries, and featured two main courses, three mini-courses, and twenty-nine lectures. The lecture notes contained in this volume provide introductory accounts of three of the most active and fascinating areas of research in modern probability theory, especially designed for graduate students entering research: Scaling limits of random trees and random graphs (Christina Goldschmidt) Lectures on the Ising and Potts models on the hypercubic lattice (Hugo Duminil-Copin) Extrema of the two-dimensional discrete Gaussian free field (Marek Biskup) Each of these contributions provides a thorough introduction that will be of value to beginners and experts alike.

Statistical Mechanics Of Classical And Disordered Systems written by Véronique Gayrard and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-09-15 with Mathematics categories.
These proceedings of the conference Advances in Statistical Mechanics, held in Marseille, France, August 2018, focus on fundamental issues of equilibrium and non-equilibrium dynamics for classical mechanical systems, as well as on open problems in statistical mechanics related to probability, mathematical physics, computer science, and biology. Statistical mechanics, as envisioned more than a century ago by Boltzmann, Maxwell and Gibbs, has recently undergone stunning twists and developments which have turned this old discipline into one of the most active areas of truly interdisciplinary and cutting-edge research. The contributions to this volume, with their rather unique blend of rigorous mathematics and applications, outline the state-of-the-art of this success story in key subject areas of equilibrium and non-equilibrium classical and quantum statistical mechanics of both disordered and non-disordered systems. Aimed at researchers in the broad field of applied modern probability theory, this book, and in particular the review articles, will also be of interest to graduate students looking for a gentle introduction to active topics of current research.

Phase Transitions And Critical Phenomena written by and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000-09-15 with Science categories.
The field of phase transitions and critical phenomena continues to be active in research, producing a steady stream of interesting and fruitful results. No longer an area of specialist interest, it has acquired a central focus in condensed matter studies. The major aim of this serial is to provide review articles that can serve as standard references for research workers in the field, and for graduate students and others wishing to obtain reliable information on important recent developments. The two review articles in this volume complement each other in a remarkable way. Both deal with what might be called the modern geometricapproach to the properties of macroscopic systems. The first article by Georgii (et al.) describes how recent advances in the application ofgeometric ideas leads to a better understanding of pure phases and phase transitions in equilibrium systems. The second article by Alava (et al.)deals with geometrical aspects of multi-body systems in a hands-on way, going beyond abstract theory to obtain practical answers. Thecombination of computers and geometrical ideas described in this volume will doubtless play a major role in the development of statisticalmechanics in the twenty-first century.

The Boundary Domain Integral Method For Elliptic Systems written by Andreas Pomp and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1998-03-18 with Mathematics categories.
This monograph gives a description of all algorithmic steps and a mathematical foundation for a special numerical method, namely the boundary-domain integral method (BDIM). This method is a generalization of the well-known boundary element method, but it is also applicable to linear elliptic systems with variable coefficients, especially to shell equations. The text should be understandable at the beginning graduate-level. It is addressed to researchers in the fields of numerical analysis and computational mechanics, and will be of interest to everyone looking at serious alternatives to the well-established finite element methods.

Harry Kesten has had a profound influence on probability theory for over 30 years. To honour his achievements a number of prominent probabilists have written survey articles on a wide variety of active areas of contemporary probability, many of which are closely related to Kesten's work.
