This volume contains lectures given at the Saint-Flour Summer School of Probability Theory during the period 8th-24th July, 1999. We thank the authors for all the hard work they accomplished. Their lectures are a work of reference in their domain. The School brought together 85 participants, 31 of whom gave a lecture concerning their research work. At the end of this volume you will find the list of participants and their papers. Finally, to facilitate research concerning previous schools we give here the number of the volume of "Lecture Notes" where they can be found: Lecture Notes in Mathematics 1975: n ° 539- 1971: n ° 307- 1973: n ° 390- 1974: n ° 480- 1979: n ° 876- 1976: n ° 598- 1977: n ° 678- 1978: n ° 774- 1980: n ° 929- 1981: n ° 976- 1982: n ° 1097- 1983: n ° 1117- 1988: n ° 1427- 1984: n ° 1180- 1985-1986 et 1987: n ° 1362- 1989: n ° 1464- 1990: n ° 1527- 1991: n ° 1541- 1992: n ° 1581- 1993: n ° 1608- 1994: n ° 1648- 1995: n ° 1690- 1996: n ° 1665- 1997: n ° 1717- 1998: n ° 1738- Lecture Notes in Statistics 1971: n ° 307- Table of Contents Part I Erwin Bolthausen: Large Deviations and Interacting Random Walks 1 On the construction of the three-dimensional polymer measure. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 7 2 Self-attracting random walks. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 39 3 One-dimensional pinning-depinning transitions. . . . . . . . . . . 105 References. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

This volume is dedicated to the memory of the late Oded Schramm (1961-2008), distinguished mathematician. Throughout his career, Schramm made profound and beautiful contributions to mathematics that will have a lasting influence. In these two volumes, Editors Itai Benjamini and Olle Häggström have collected some of his papers, supplemented with three survey papers by Steffen Rohde, Häggström and Cristophe Garban that further elucidate his work. The papers within are a representative collection that shows the breadth, depth, enthusiasm and clarity of his work, with sections on Geometry, Noise Sensitivity, Random Walks and Graph Limits, Percolation, and finally Schramm-Loewner Evolution. An introduction by the Editors and a comprehensive bibliography of Schramm's publications complete the volume. The book will be of especial interest to researchers in probability and geometry, and in the history of these subjects.

This comprehensive guide unlocks the secrets of sharp thinking through a treasure trove of brain-bending games, perplexing puzzles, and thought-provoking challenges. Within these pages, readers will encounter a kaleidoscope of mental gymnastics, from mind-bending riddles and lateral thinking puzzles that stretch the boundaries of imagination, to visual illusions that dance on the edge of perception. Wordplay and anagrams add a touch of linguistic dexterity, while logic grids engage strategic thinking and analytical skills. The challenges escalate with mathematical conundrums that demand logical reasoning and geometric puzzles that test spatial awareness. Deductive reasoning mysteries transport readers to the world of detectives and code-breakers, while probability and statistics puzzles explore the intricate interplay of chance and logic. Cryptograms and codes add an element of intrigue, concealing hidden messages within intricate patterns. Beyond the realm of traditional puzzles, "Thinking Games for Curious Minds" also delves into the art of creative thinking. Readers are invited to design their own mazes and labyrinths, invent word games that twist language into clever riddles, and create optical illusions that defy the laws of perception. Logic puzzles challenge the limits of deductive reasoning, while brain training games provide a fun and engaging way to sharpen cognitive skills. Laws Of Small Numbers Extremes And Rare Events written by Michael Falk and has been published by Birkhäuser this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-11-11 with Mathematics categories.

Since the publication of the first edition of this seminar book in 1994, the theory and applications of extremes and rare events have enjoyed an enormous and still increasing interest. The intention of the book is to give a mathematically oriented development of the theory of rare events underlying various applications. This characteristic of the book was strengthened in the second edition by incorporating various new results on about 130 additional pages. Part II, which has been added in the second edition, discusses recent developments in multivariate extreme value theory. Particularly notable is a new spectral decomposition of multivariate distributions in univariate ones which makes multivariate questions more accessible in theory and practice. One of the most innovative and fruitful topics during the last decades was the introduction of generalized Pareto distributions in the univariate extreme value theory. Such a statistical modelling of extremes is now systematically developed in the multivariate framework.

Kinetically Constrained Models written by Ivailo Hartarsky and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-08-19 with Science categories.

This book offers an in-depth review of kinetically constrained models (KCMs), a topic that lies at the crossroads of probability and statistical mechanics. KCMs have captivated physicists ever since their introduction in the 1980s. Their remarkable glassy behavior makes them an essential toy model for exploring the liquid–glass transition, a longstanding puzzle in condensed matter physics. Over the past 20 years, KCMs have also gained significant attention in mathematics. Despite belonging to the well-established domain of interacting particle systems with stochastic dynamics, the presence of dynamical constraints gives rise to novel phenomena. These include anomalously long mixing times, aging effects, singularities in the dynamical large deviation function, dynamical heterogeneities, and atypical ergodicity-breaking transitions corresponding to the emergence of a large variety of amorphous structures. Authored by two leading experts in the field, this volume offers an extensive overview of rigorous results in the field. The self-contained exposition, with emphasis on high-level ideas and common techniques, is suitable for novices, as well as seasoned researchers, with backgrounds in mathematics or physics. The text covers crucial connections to bootstrap percolation cellular automata, along with sharp thresholds, universality, out-of-equilibrium dynamics, and more. The volume features challenging open questions and a detailed bibliography to direct future research. Whether as a reference or a study guide, it is a valuable resource for those interested in KCM.
