The proposed guideline will replace the existing guideline on assault published by the Sentencing Guidelines Council in February 2008. This report includes the Committee's comments to the Sentencing Council as a respondent to their consultation, draws attention to the guideline and gives the evidence received. The Committee will take the same approach when publishing its consideration of future guidelines.
