Excerpt from One Thousand and One Thoughts From My Library Why are not more gems from our great authors scattered over the country? Great books are not in everybody's reach; and though it is better to know them thoroughly than to know them only here and there, yet it is a good work to give a little to those who have neither time nor means to get more. Let every book-worm, when in any fragrant scarce old tome he discovers a sentence, a story, an illustration, that does his heart good, hasten to give it to others. Regrace written by Frank Viola and has been published by Baker Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-03-05 with Religion categories.

The church is tired of seeing Christians act ungraciously toward one another when they disagree. Social media has added to the carnage. Christians routinely block each other on Facebook because of doctrinal disagreements. The world watches the blood-letting, and the Christian witness is tarnished. But what if every Christian discovered that their favorite teacher in church history had blind spots and held to some false--and even shocking--views? Bestselling author Frank Viola argues that this simple awareness will soften Christians when they interact with each other in the face of theological disagreements. In ReGrace, he uncovers some of the shocking beliefs held by faith giants like C.S. Lewis, Luther, Calvin, Moody, Spurgeon, Wesley, Graham, and Augustine--not to downgrade or dismiss them, but to show that even "the greats" in church history didn't get everything right. Knowing that the heroes of our faith sometimes got it wrong will empower us to treat our fellow Christians with grace rather than disdain whenever we disagree over theology.

Justification written by Paul ChulHong Kang and has been published by Peter Lang this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006 with Religion categories.

This book returns to the true nature of the gospel, justification by grace alone through faith alone because of Christ alone. Fundamental to the book's argument is a rejection of the biblical truth and the faithful heritage of the gospel. By tracing the development of Reformation theology in Luther and Calvin, the giants in the American Great Awakening and the Korean revivals are brought up for analysis: Jonathan Edwards, Timothy Dwight, Sun-Ju Kil, Ik-Doo Kim, Yong-Do Lee, and Sung-Bong Lee. Paul ChulHong Kang makes clear what can be at stake not merely for academic theologians but for all Christians - the gospel itself.

Crusade In The City written by Marion L. Bell and has been published by Bucknell University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1977 with Religion categories.

This book addresses the religious life of Philadelphia, watches as revivalists come and go from 1828 to 1876, and examines the impact of revivals in the city. Mass revivalism was touted as the solution to cities' social problems, so the account of the close relationship between the YMCA movement and revivalism is appreciated. Meanwhile, America's middle-class evangelical majority, caught in the web of an individualistic ideology, persisted in ignoring the destruction of "community" as the cities grew in complexity, anonymity, and ethnic and class divisiveness. While depending rather too heavily on a "great man" approach to revivalism in Philadelphia, in confirming in a very specific, well-documented manner the inconsistencies in revivalistic preaching and the gap between goals, means, and ends in urban mass evangelism, this work is a significant contribution to the study of American religious history.
