Only the Faces Change is a humorous, touching story of teachers, both good and bad, of students searching for truth in education and in their personal lives, and of failed bureaucratic attempts to improve the system. Herb Williams encourages students to speak for themselves through discussions and notes (Dear Herbies) from a coffee can; satirizes directives from principals, counselors, attendance supervisors, and parents; solicits contributions from colleagues (From the Campus Inn); incorporates the latest rumors from one who knows them all (The Ear With an Attitude); and integrates satirical columns from his newspaper days (Fiction and Fact from the Almanac). For over fifteen years, Herb Williams wrote a humor column, titled ?Life and Times, ? published in three different newspapers in Norwalk, Cerritos, and Redlands, California. This is his third book in addition to his travel memoir, North to Alaska with a No-Account Cat and his ?how to? booklet, Easy Writing Across the Curriculum or Anywhere Else.

Why do some people write using the left hand? Could it be related to brain dominance? Is brain dominance a myth, or is it innate uniqueness? Is it a myth or could it be brain dominance? A Left-Hander in Society is a thought provoking book written by a left-hander, who decade after decade, though changing popular culture, and through changing trends and technologies, has persisted through challenges and bias, gaining insight, wisdom, and a humorous outlook on left-handed life. Left-handers and right-handers alike will enjoy reading through the memoirs, observations, challenges, research and more. The following review is from a parent who was unaware of any left-hand challenges until her daughter was in 8th grade. “As a right-hander, I did not give the left-hander any special thought as I had little awareness of any challenge they may have with right-handed tools and right-handed instructions. After reading the book I now appreciate the left-hander effort and viewpoint, especially when I see my left-handed daughter taking notes with a right-handed spiral notebook and pushing her hand through wet-ink! Thank you for writing this fascinating book full of insights that I just did not have before reading it!” A mother

One contribution addresses the issues related to the freedom of speech in diverse classrooms. The essays are rooted in relevant theoretical perspectives from active learning literature, including emerging approaches on intersectional pedagogies. All authors are practitioners engaged in teaching in college, and several have previous high school teaching experience. They openly discuss challenges related to teaching in diverse classrooms and suggest pedagogical strategies to thrive in diverse environments.

Handedness And Brain Asymmetry written by Marian Annett and has been published by Psychology Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-04-15 with Psychology categories.

Brain asymmetry for speech is moderately related to handedness but what are the rules? Are symmetries for hand and brain associated with characteristics such as intelligence, motor skill, spatial reasoning or skill at sports? In this follow up to the influential Left, Right Hand and Brain (1985) Marian Annett draws on a working lifetime of research to help provide answers to crucial questions. Central to her argument is the Right Shift Theory - her original and innovative contribution to the field that seeks to explain the relationships between left-and right-handedness and left-and right-brain specialisation. The theory proposes that handedness in humans and our non-human primate relations depends on chance but that chance is weighted towards right-handedness in most people by an agent of right-hemisphere disadvantage. It argues for the existence of a single gene for right shift (RS+) that evolved in humans to aid the growth of speech in the left hemisphere of the brain. The Right Shift Theory has possible implications for a wide range of questions about human abilities and disabilities, including verbal and non verbal intelligence, educational progress and dyslexia, spatial reasoning, sporting skills and mental illness. It continues to be at the cutting edge of research, solving problems and generating new avenues of investigation - most recently the surprising idea that a mutant RS+ gene might be involved in the causes of schizophrenia and autism. Handedness and Brain Asymmetry will make fascinating reading for students and researchers in psychology and neurology, educationalists, and anyone with a keen interest in why people have different talents and weaknesses.
